916 Slight Smoke On Starting Up

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by ASK, Mar 23, 2021.

  1. The bike starts up easily without using the choke but I get a little bit of white smoke only from the vertical cylinder on starting which goes after warming up. Oil levels seem fine but seem to get a bit of condensation in the window. Bike is running absolutely fine otherwise. Did a long run on Sunday and didn't miss a beat. Something I should worry about or just keep an eye on?
Tried to upload a vid but won't let me.
    Thank you!!!

  2. I wouldn't worry about the condensation in the oil level window; it seems to be regarded as normal, at least for the aircooled twins like mine. I have found that after a run, with the engine hot, leaving the bike to cool down with the oil filler cap off (and something to remind me to put it back!) helps to keep the window clear.

  3. White smoke or water vapour from the vertical cylinder exhaust? If you can't tell easily, try putting anything cold in the way and any water vapour will condense.

  4. I’ve had the same on mine, never worried about it, not had any problems. Disappears after a few good runs and in the warmer months

  5. I wouldn’t worry too much

I started my virtually new bike the other day and the amount of condensation vapour from the exhaust was comical !

It’s not helped by the U.K. weather. If it makes you feel better, and the oils looking milky do an oil and filter change.

  6. If your sitting correctly on the bike, what comes out the rear end pipes shouldn't concern you., let someone else worry about that.;)

  8. Probably condensation in the oil.
However, it is worth to check the coolant level and also is any signs of oil in there. (although I very much doubt it)
