V4 Multistrada V4s Recall - Engine Replacement

  1. Mine wasn’t. I had one for two years, and it was super smooth. It had a full system and was remapped, so maybe that cured the supposed vibes.
     
  2. Just read this on a US website ..not sure if this is an either/or offer or all three in total.
    “For their trouble, affected North American owners will be compensated by Ducati in three ways: they will get 1) two years of free official annual maintenance, 2) a free radar software upgrade ($850 + labor), and 3) a $1,500 voucher good for Ducati apparel or accessories.”

  3. Damm should have bought a dodgy engine for that maybe i will for that incentive

  5. The US will always be offered a much better compensation package than the UK. It was the same with BMW. We tend to roll over much easier in the UK, and the lawyers know it!

  6. I had the misfortune to own an R9T cafe racer. At 11 months old I discovered the tank was rusting behind the lugs welded to the underside tank, not helped by barely a mist of spray paint covering the metal on the underside. The bike had been pampered, done less that 4k and I dont think it had seen rain.

    Local dealer told me that was normal wear and tear because I lived in damp and rainy Britain, went to BMW UK, they said they wouldn't do anything unless a dealer referred the issue, wrote to the MD of BMW UK quoting an interview he did about how important customer service was and asked him if he thought rust on the underside of a petrol tank of an 11 month old BMW with a retail somewhere north of £11K was acceptable? - never got a response. after 4 months of being sent in circles wrote to them all and told them I would never own a BMW again......

  7. Brian I had similar problems with BMW dealer and BMW UK. Neither wanted to know as they had already had my money. They won't be getting my custom again hence the switch to Ducati whenever that may be due to the ongoing engine recall saga.

  8. On the subject of getting customer services moving I recently had two run in's with Easyjet and Booking.com. Nothing happened until a post on twitter and I received action in seconds !

  9. Just had confirmation my bike is not affected by the recall. The recall affects approx 10% of the engines who have valve guides made by a subcontractor. Not sure if wrong spec material has been used or they were made to the wrong tolerance etc.

  10. I am amazed so many Companies have twitter accounts. Its a guaranteed way of a getting a response these days as so many people use it and read what is posted.
     
  11. I think good or bad customer service from the manufacturer starts with the dealer, some are quite happy to side with the manufacturer, others will stand in your corner, generally those are the ones who see the bigger picture and value return custom.

  12. So, lets see how this goes.
    DUCATI V4S Multistrada Sport 2021. Received 2 weeks ago.
    Nice road bike actually, delivered about on time, painful 'essential travel' run-in miles done ready for a day off and a 600 service first thing tomorrow and then a 'free' throttle day, just so happens to be expected the warmest day tomoz plus a tentative step out of a three month lock down. But no.
    Call from our dealer this morning........ and I am slightly, just ever so very slightly, pissed off.

    'Ahem, we need your bike back asap, pls don't ride it meantime as it needs a new engine, cannot tell you exactly why but it might take two months or two weeks but, just to let you know - cheers - thanks!'

    Very unspecific about the problem, (bike is just fine by the way), but I guess they have a real longevity issue with some valve train component?!?! - No plan whatsoever from Ducati UK I might add - nothing.
    What do you guys think?
    1) Compensation - not specific yet - I have my ideas - What do you guys reckon?
    1 years garden camping for the Ducati QA team for good causes, how about all proceeds to ?? Yamaha clean water programme ?? - in Qatar
    need some good ones chaps....

    As for the bike
    2) Bike - So far is an absolute 'perfect potential' road machine, the only thing I can fault handling or performance wise is the shitty engine braking, and the weight, but, it handles well enough.
    Probably wont be able to throttle it for a while though, better get the other ones out :)
    ROADRIDING POSTPONED.............
    Seems quality control is back to bite the brand, lets see if they put the money where the mouth is.......

  16. MRB998 I'm surprised your dealer didn't tell you what the issue is. I pick mine up on Friday and rang yesterday to make sure mine wasn't affected. About 10% of the bikes made are affected. This is due to the supplier of the valve guides not being able to keep up with demand and subbing out some work. These parts have either been made with the wrong spec material or to the wrong tolerance. Must be costing Ducati a fortune to send bikes to Italy and fit new engines us it's a massive ball ache for affected customers. Hope yours is sorted soon, Shame you'll have to do the 600 mile break in again

  17. It will be interesting to see how the ‘bike’ press cover this.
    From memory:
    R1 - replacement gearboxes
    GSXRS - snappy headstocks
    BMW (GS) snappy forks

    They all have their odd issues. It’s all about how it’s handled between Ducati, the dealer and customer.

  18. Add to this the first S1000RR’s had to have camshafts replaced. The thing is that BMW seem to get Halo status with the press. I’ve not experienced their warranty procedure but it seems that it’s super slick, so rarely counts as ‘newsworthy’

    Currently I’m having to go back for a new starter switch on my V2 having already been into them for warranty and them saying they fixed it, which is annoying as it didn’t work properly straight away when I picked it up! Now I have to go back for the new switch they should have just replaced the first time. Not the end of the world but not the same focus as BMW it seems.

    to counter this, BMW SEEM to have a relative high number of recalls on new launches, for such a volume manufacturer it’s strange, it’s more like the car world where it’s not uncommon at all. Even last year my 2014 2 series had 2 recalls!!!!
     
  19. I wouldn’t call the BMW warranty program super slick mate. The gen 4 s1000rr launch has been a complete disaster and my bike spent weeks in the dealers each time it was in. That was with 3 different dealers.
