There is a lot of talk about power / performance gains, from various exhaust systems on the forum. Has anyone any experience with fitting performance filters K&N, Pipercross etc. Although these are not on show, there are possible performance gains. Has anyone fitted one and had a Dino test?
Oem filters generally aren’t restrictive. They’re also pretty good for filtration. I wouldn’t use a high flow air filter on anything other than a track bike personally. as for gains... honestly we spent 3 or more days back to backing filters on the dyno and none really made any difference. We actually lost power on some. we got an ever so slight gain from the sbk mwr filter. But you wouldn’t notice it. And that was after a full race system, bell mouths and cams etc. they’re a money spinner IMO
Here we go again. OEM filters are not the part which restricts your bike or cars performance. The manufacturer makes sure that there is an element of redundant capacity at the end of its service life. They are designed to provide the best filtration for your bike or car. Only when you hugely modify the performance will it need a filter with more airflow, such as on turbo engines. Crap filters increase intake noise and makes simple people feel that their vehicle is performing better.
Based on the below it seems like Sprint actually does give couple extra HP but for me it costs too much. Performance_Air_filter_elements_ flow_analysis_comparison_University_of Wales by Sprint Filter - issuu Do Performance Air Filters Actually Work? - YouTube
Ducati provide one with the exhaust kits from memory, looks like it’s made by K&N or the like rather than being a foam filter. I’m inclined to agree with others that the benefits are negligible, but I’ve only done it when combined with upmap and exhaust. the intake is normally the most restrictive part, sound deadening, complex routing etc. Especially on the Panigale, the trioptions guys run modified snorkels and I think that nets a bigger power gain
