V4 Multistrada V4s Recall - Engine Replacement

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by johnny, Mar 27, 2021.

  1. Engine already arrived and ready to go. Less than a week after told of the recall. That's pretty impressive. All calm now. I think Ducati are out to make a point...sh*t happens, but here is how we take care of it. Here's to another run-in period once the work is completed. The dealer is going to take their time over this as clearly want it to go without a hitch. I'm expecting about a week to fit, test, test ride and check again. No worries.

  2. quite a few people on here with a pretty damming view of Ducati dealer mechanics. I think you need to ask yourself if you bought the bike from somewhere where you have reason to believe they are incapable of carrying out serious warranty work then what are your options?

I bought my bike from Abingdon, it's my closest dealer, I stupidly thought their techs would be okay to simply PDI a bike, how wrong was I, they fitted the BikeTrac, included as part of a promotion with the bike and managed to burn through the earthing in the wiring loom with a solder gun, which they didn't correct and then every time the bike got wet it had a hissy fit and started flashing indicators without the ignition on and all sorts.

They had the bike back to investigate, miss-handled and didn't set my expection for 10 days and told me they couldn't find the issue, after repeated issues with them I went to Moto-Rapido, which is a long way from me but due to covid they picked my bike up, and I paid £130 out of my own pocket but they found the issue within minuets, fixed it and did the first service and returned the bike within a day. That issue has never re-occurred.

I've learnt my lesson, but I would trust MotoRapido to do anything, they build and run race bikes! There are lots of other well established quality dealers who's reputation stands out, JHP, Manchester, Ducati Glasgow. I would avoid anyone who doesn't base their business solely around Ducati. If they are multi-franchise they will be sharing mechanics and won't be focused on Ducati's'

Hope you all get the issues sorted, it's a serious one but it sounds like Ducati have been pretty reasonable in my personal opinion, and while you spent a lot of money on a new bike, and have the pleasure of being one of the first to buy one, you also have to accept you have probably bought dozens of cars and bikes in your life and likely only ever had one issue. I know in my case, I've only ever had this issue, and I've bought probably 10 new bikes through the years and multiple used ones so give them a chance to make good is where I'm going with this.

  3. They are not exclusively Ducati, but Ducati brings them in the most money. They have serviced other Ducatis I have owned and are very sorted. Their mechanics are factory trained. I'm going to ask them to take it on a proper test ride once completed. In the mantime I will have to put up with a Streetfighter V4 as a temporary bike....:p

  4. Hey Eejit, Who is your dealer. Last I had that they did not know where the engines were and if they had even been despatched

  5. Plus they can do coolant exp bottle replacement at the same time! They are bound to be cracked by now!

  6. It's an early batch issue isn't it? I bet my bottom dollar they'll be using a different manufacturer/supplier for the valve guides now, and they'll be more QC.... stuff like this only comes out through Joe Public, that's all I'm trying to say, Ducati have done 1000's of miles testing this engine and never detected an issue??

  7. Ducati Aylesbury. The new engine was dispatched before I heard from Ducati. When I spoke to the dealer they said the replacement was already on the way. It's now my third Ducati from them. Nothing but impressed. As the fault is a batch issue, just unlucky. But good that Ducati monitor ongoing quality and act quickly. The bike has a 4 year warranty, so they must be confident.

  8. Technicians and mechanics are not the same. There are dealers I’d trust, Motorapido, JHP, Cornerspeed for example, as all do race bikes and are used to and very competent at stripping and rebuilding. Others I wouldn’t (won’t name, not fair)

  9. Hopefully this is true! A few dealers are known to play fast and loose with the term "on it's way"

  10. The bike is already in their workshop and seen the new engine. Swap will be completed Thursday next week, (15th). Also, good to get the voucher from Ducati, should pay for some leathers.

  11. This is impressive from Ducati Aylesbury. I brought mine from Blade Abingdon, the dealer hasn't even contacted me to inform me of the recall. Once I received my letter from Ducati I was straight on the phone to them they were all in a real Tizz didn't have answer still waiting for the call back. In the mean time I contacted Ducati UK who have told me to be patient and can I wait until next Wednesday 14th for an answer.

Has anyone else dealt with Blade over this issue ?

All I want is the loan of a Street fighter until my bikes ready plus enough compensation to be able to fit a full race system :p:upyeah:

  12. I ordered my V4S Sport way back in October of 2020 & it's half paid for already. My dealer advised me on Tuesday ( 6 April 2021) that it was "ON THE BOAT" to get to the Americas but was being shipped with a "spare" engine that would be installed when the bike gets here. Yes, I got one of the 130 noted for North America.

I have 100% confidence in the Ducati Master Certified Techs at my Dealership but I'm still "bummed out" that it is yet another delay in getting my bike. The riding season in Texas is year around and I'm missing some of the best weather right now so........................

I get on my BMW S1000XR or my BMW K1600GTL ( both of which have had ZERO issues) to a ride in. So much for being a committed Ducatisti (LOL).

This will be my last new Ducati but only because at 72 years old I'll be looking at a trike in a few years!!!! Maybe that's a model Ducati has yet to build????

  13. Had my V4s delivered in January, heard on internet about engine issue, no contact from dealer. Rang them and told to listen out for a rattle which could be a prelude to engine failure . Several days later rang dealer again for clarification on problems and told must not ride bike, you can’t have a loan bike because we don’t have one and if we did you wouldn’t get any compensation.
Since before I received the bike I’ve had not one phone call from the dealer I’ve had to ring them. First Ducati might be my last, real shame it’s a great bike.

  14. Personally I'd go for a full refund if they want to play that game

  15. Who is your dealer?

  16.
  17. I bought my bike from Blade Abingdon and they are embarrassingly incompetent... I did not use them for first service and have never been back, my issues were documented and left with Ducati but I'll leave it there. PM me if you want to know more but I very strongly advise you consider another dealer. I used MotoRapido for everything since.

  18. I was @ Riders, Bridgwater yesterday, having my 1260S serviced and MOT'd, when I saw a mechanic dealing with a V4S engine switch and wow, there really wasn't that much left in/on the bike.
Basically the frame and loads of cables, hydraulic lines etc, hanging in/on & around the frame. I would be seriously worried about that happening to my 'new-bike', but then again, with professional mechanics involved, there ought not to be any follow-on associated issues with the bike, once sorted.
That said, my confidence in the machine would be hugely dented for quite some time......

  19. Agreed. I’d rather just wait another year for them to iron all the bugs out of this new model, before taking the plunge. If I’d already bought one, I’d be asking for my money back, rather than having my new bike pulled apart.

  20. Blade Abingdon is also my closest dealer but after talking to friends about them inc there Yamaha outfit in Swindon I avoid them like the plague. Bike shifters they may be, but anything else you take your chances.
