Arai Helmets

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by BB1000, Apr 7, 2021.

  1. So just got a new lid

First Arai I’ve owned, is it me or are they more difficult to get and off, once on though it fits perfectly

  2. It is you.

  3. My old xlite is definitely easier lol

  4. wait 'til you decide to remove the visor.. not purposely doom-mongering but unless they've changed I still find it incredible that they've remained on or near the top choice of helmets with such a ridiculous visor removal/refit design. Controversial - feel free to disagree, might just be me..

  6. Ah yeah lol they have changed the visor system, the pods pop off once you push the levers and swapping the visor is really easy then you just push the side pods back on

  7. ...could not agree more Chris, changing the visor is a mare, side pod snapped off, thirty odd quid later get a new pair, two weeks ago get helmet out of winter nest open visor and snap....there goes another one. So no ,it’s not only you.....looking at an agv K6 as a replacement

  9. I've one that's twenty years old and stiil very tight, no one wants a sausage up a wide alleyway fit do they.

  10. Mine is the Debut and it's easy to get on and off, the padding around the opening is much softer than the rest of the helmet

    The visor removal was straightforward.

  11. They vary but Arai have always tried to be quite snug around the opening to minimise wind noise up around the chin and face. Remember it's one area that gets heavy wear as your ears etc are pushing the cheek pads etc back all the time. Visor mechanisms on Arai's aren't my favourite, I used to work in a bike shop and we used to find they were okay when new but when the helmet became older and the plastic slightly brittle they would break easily!

I still rate Arai though, they really are one of the best out there.

  12. Had loads of Arai’s in the past and won’t buy another one because of that stupid visor change mechanism!

Prefer Shoei and HJC now, the HJC has the best designed, quickest, simple visor mechanism I’ve ever used, even better than the Shoei one.

  13. Ive just replaced my GP with a V, the visor system is greatly simplified. This from someone who has broken a pod or two before on their old GP.

  14. Got a few Arais and just added a Bell. Thumb sized button on each side to remove the visor, then push to fit back on. As a preference, it's the Bell, simply because I am fed up of breaking tiny little plastic clips and rendering my lid useless.

  15. I have never had any issue with Arai visors, or with getting the helmet itself on and off.

I always use the straps to pull the helmet open when putting it on/off, which is what you are supposed to do :)

Visors are very easy too, I am puzzled how you guys struggle there ??

  16. The Arai visor thing is/was a pain. Once I’d managed to change it to a dark visor it stayed dark.

The XLite 803 is, in comparison, a piece of piss :)

  17. Just been through the whole side pod thing again, decided rightly/wrongly to clean the wife's visor, thought I'd remove it knowing how fragile the little plastic clips are and as ever they both snapped. £30 quid later (and for plain colours as they don't make side pods for her Chaser design anymore) I've fitted them today.

I've got the latest RX7 and the system has changed luckily, but what a pain for many years.

  18. With the Debut the side covers stay on and the visor lifts up and off once the 2 levers are in the raised position

  19. Seriously, there is a technique. Made the guy at Custom lids in Newcastle look very silly (not hard) when he asked me to prove that changing visor was not hard! Took all of ten seconds. Often find the Shoei visors more difficult to click in place.

  20. Btw...do not touch the side pod things. Just not required.
