Just got my new to me '88 Paso running. It had been sitting since 2003. Prior owner converted it from the original Weber to Mikuni flat slides. Has anyone out there installed similar TM38 flat slides? I'm wondering what jetting you're running. At present it gives a bit of a cough upon throttle and seems disinclined to want to ramp up quickly. Idle is solid, fuel/air at 2.5 turns out on each carb. Thanks in advance for any insight.
You'd be best to put your question on http://ducatipaso.org/ Plenty owners there have converted to Mikuni and should be able to help. You will have to register and a reply might not be immediate but they will get back to you. In the first instance I'd try opening the pilot adjustment screws by 1/4 turn and see if there is any improvement in pick up.
Thanks for the input. I'm already on the paso.org forum and posted there first. Hadn't gotten any feedback and just thought I'd see if there was anyone on this forum who'd fiddled with the older bikes. l'm sure I'll suss it out one way or another ...
Hi there, I don't know if you've already sorted this but all slide carburetors are essentially the same. However, there's some good information on the Mikuni USA website, with tuning manuals, although none specifically for the TM series. From a closed throttle to small opening (zero to 1/8) your problem can only lie in adjustment of the idle (pilot) circuit. If above then you progress to idle jet and throttle slide cutaway (progression), tapered needle position and atomiser, needle jet and then main jet (in that order). For example; the needle jet and main jet sizes don't come into play until well above 1/2 to 3/4 throttle opening. It's also worth checking for manifold air leaks although they're not as critical on slide carburetors as CV. Mark the throttle (in the closed position) and the adjacent switchgear housing from zero to wide open in increments of 1/8, 1/4 etc. Note where the problem is in relation to throttle position. That will highlight what sub system you need to focus on.
