Stolen Dewalt Drill

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Duncs, Apr 8, 2021.

  1. I just had some concrete poured for my new workshop in the back of my garden. The next day late evening I noticed my brand new Dewalt drill and impact driver was missing. There was about 6 guys from the concrete company passing through my garage for about an hour and a half. As soon as business opens in about an hour I will be calling the company to see what they say about it. The case is missing but the charger was left behind. Any advice on what to say to the company , should I call the police and report it ?

  2. I had this happen with a British Gas team some years back.
The police didn’t want to know and British Gas weren’t bothered!

    Life lesson, never temp fate!

  3. Super annoying but you’re screwed.

    Nice staffie btw....

  5. Honesty is the first box that is ticked when employing any workman that represents your compan, what's wrong with folk these days just for a few quid and they could lose their jobs / wonderful pay package in a second.

Speak up and don't holdback, but just make sure you've got your facts 100% right.

  6. My brother’s a joiner and he’s got a van full of the yellow brand. He’s super security conscious about his kit. Thieving scumbags go crazy for high end power tools. Dead easy to shift and car boot sale gold.

  7. Unfortunately its all paid for so I can't deduct anything. I just heard from my neighbour that the guy across from has video footage of a white van turning up and some guy walking up my driveway. So i'll hold off calling till I see the footage.

  8. Sorry to hear this Duncs, fingers crossed for the video footage, could be a lifesaver although I guess numberplate capture is asking too much. I only learnt by accident the other day that “Porch Pirates” are quite common in some parts of the states, I,d never heard the term before but I guess it’s something that will come here/has come here already. With the amount of people regularly receiving packages but not there to collect them, it’s something we all need to be aware of, although I know this isn’t a typical case of this, only similar.

  10. it could just be a simple accident, picked up thinking it's one of crew working on your job. and that is how i would approach it first.

  11. Thanks Chris, its a lesson to be learned and we'll definitely not let it get to us. My wife spoke to the company and they have cameras on their vehicle ,so maybe they have footage of the crime.

  12. Dogs sre never worry about nicked drills! If you wanna crap then just bark and the door is opened for you to go outside and di your business. Don't even need to clear it up as this is done for you. Don't even have to bother go shopping for food as that is someone else's problem! Sleeping all day? Yes, sounds good!

    I could be a dog!

  17. You can't do that unless you have absolute proof it was one of them who stole it, which it doesn't sound like you do. I'd also be very careful of phoning up and accusing them of theft. It's slander if it isn't true.
I was working a job in New York once, and was phoned up by the boss as the people were refusing to pay, saying I'd stolen a box. I instantly told him to call the police as I hadn't touched anything. He rang them, told them I hadn't stolen anything and said he was ringing the police. They immediately asked him not to, and said they weren't pressing charges as the box had "weed in it". They were fcuking liars and thieves. Anyhow, it caused real bad feeling for me, who was a young lad on a summer job, and I never forgot it.

  18. UPdate . As Finn suggested my wife called the concrete company and diplomatically explained the situation. The big boss stood up for his workers and said all his trucks have cameras. Sure enough we now have video footage showing a guy park over the road walk into my garage and walk out with my drills . We also have the number plate and more footage from 2 neighbours. The police have been contacted and will investigate. Hopefully we might get some justice and maybe just maybe I might get me drills back. I will keep you posted.

  19. So you think a random guy just pulled up, walked into your garage and nicked the gear? Or was he chatting to the workers?

  20. Hopefully good news then Duncs, from a security point of view, I would like to live where you live!
