Gloves Now Mandatory For Motorcyclists In Spain (apparently)

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Chris, Apr 8, 2021.

  1. Not a bad thing, I have a friend who is a nurse in Medway A&E.
She has seen some horrendous de gloved hands where riders without gloves, have come off put their hands out and the skin has rolled off their hands over the wrist.

  2. It is absolutely up to the rider as to what protection they wear...and in my teens I used to ride around the south of france in shorts flip flops and t shirt. But that was along time ago.

However the other day there were some youfs riding up ans down my road on a newish L plated 125, baffle out. After 10 mins of them I walked up to them and said I ride a bike etc, and that’s a lovely bike you got there, looks expensive, I asked him what does he use to wipe his arse? And said it again. Again looking at me quizzically I said if you come off at speed without gloves, like now, then some one else is going to have to wipe your arse for you, and while you’re at it please get some boots that offer more protection than the nice new white trainers you’re wearing now. And to finish with go somewhere else to make a noise . My wife was peering from behind the curtains certain I was going to be stabbed etc. Saw the lads around the corner a week later suitably suited and booted, we now often chat although we occupy different universes.

  3. ? .. except it's now mandatory to wear gloves in Spain Michel.. :upyeah: :)

  4. So all people riding in Spain will hopefully always be able to wipe their own bottoms then

  5. I was hoping someone could shed some more light on the background behind the decision, surely there are a few other essential garments that are also in the mix.

  6. This must have to do with the implementation of new (2016) European motorcycle safety standards. According to FEMA, EU countries have until 2023 to implement them.

No mention of EU approved arse wipes, though.
Not that you guys in the UK care anymore, anyway... :D

  8. Yeah, I know, just teasing, sorry. :yum

Sometimes I feel that we may have reached the limits of modern democracy...

  9. I used no gloves on the Buell for years, of course summer riding only but yes these days lightweight or my Furygans that are back from the nineties.

  10. I degloved my little finger and tore the end of it off last year in a very minor off road tumble at walking pace. I was wearing off road style gloves which were absolutley useless.

It beggars belief that people ride a bike with no gloves at all. It might be they end up with someone wiping their arse for the rest of their lives.

  11. I fully understand your views and yes very reckless on a performance motorcycle, but sometimes you say what the hell.

  12. Always wear gloves when motorcycling or cycling. Seen to many serious hand injuries

  13. The article states that the wearing of gloves for both rider and pillion has been mandatory in France since 2017. Didn’t know that. I don’t quite get the logic of a safety group meeting to discuss mandating air bag jackets and coming up with a decision to mandate wearing gloves. The wearing of “appropriate” clothing has rumbled on since I started riding 50 years ago and I’m sure it will continue until it’s all eventually mandated to protect people from themselves of course. 14. Not really on gloves. There are so many decent quality ones out there that have no impact on riding and comfort that i can't understand why anyone would choose not to wear them. But each to their own.

My minor incident means my right hand has a permanent, if only very minor, disability. If i had lost the finger next to it as well, it would have been life changing.

  15. Le Pen may put paid to that idea!

  16. Point taken and i do wear gloves everytime when on the bikes these days as i'm getting older by the minute.

  17. Good luck getting all those Spanish kids and holiday makers using gloves....

  18. Like mandatory vaccination or no freedoms you mean? ;)

  19. Do they specify the type of materials they should be made from and quality required or can I wear these?
