Big Hike In Insurance Cost

Discussion in 'Insurance - Sponsored by Ducati Insurance' started by Wilbert, Apr 10, 2021.

  1. So last week I swapped a 3 year old BMW S1000XR for a new Multistrada V4S. I was paying £150 fully comp on the BM. Rang my company with details of the new bike and they said they couldn't cover me under my existing policy which only had 2 months left to run. Feeling a bit p1ssed off to say the least I began to try other companies. Yes I could get insurance but the prices ranged from 3 times that of the BM to nearly 20!!
To rub salt into the wounds my new insurance policy has the same underwriter as my last policy. So that's another years NCB I won't be getting and now I'm paying what it used to cost me to insure 2 bikes and my car just to insure the Ducati.
Are Ducati's normally so much to insure or is this because it's a new model and quite an expensive one at that?

  2. The closer you get to £20k the harder to find a policy at a decent price, I have a diavel 1260s, and had a tracker fitted. With that I did need a different underwriter but the cost was almost the same as my triumph triple, just over £170. At the time I had the diavel and triumph rocket 3 on my list and both were the same price with tracker but with out over a grand. I am 50 with 10+ years ncb,

  4. Go on a comparison website. Find the cheapest quote. Call BeMoto or Bikesure and tell them you have been offered insurance for the lowest quote less £20. and ask them to match it. You should try this on your current company too.

This works a charm for me, and has done for years. Goodluck!

  5. Insurance is bonkers. I really struggled to find insurance for my RSV4 with quotes ranging from £600 to £2500 with many not willing to quote. Had similar issues with my Monster. Tried Bemoto but you need at least 1yr NCB or else computer says no!!

My business insurance also rocketed, Professional Indemnity last year was £1500, this year first quote came back at £40k!!! I shit you not!!!

  6. I’ve always done this, play them at their own game.
I especially like it when they ask me which company supplied the quote and I remind them it’s their job to find me the most competitive price!

  7. Exactly, I treat insurance companies the same way as they treat me, and they have trained me well!

  8. You can name the company & the quotes, we won't mind.

    Bemoto + tracker.

  9. I was with Express insurance which is part of the Carole Nash group. MCE were the cheapest quote but I ended up taking out insurance with Bemoto as the level of cover was better albeit fractionally more expensive.
Seems that mid term adjustment and brand new bikes is an expensive combination. Similar thing happened when I swapped my Fireblade for the S1000XR.

  10. Tried BeMoto a few months ago, after spending 20 mins on the phone with details of my 4 bikes when they tried to get a quote they told me neither of the underwriters they use would quote for a London postcode .

  11. Try living in London, many won’t even quote

  12. This week had the run around with my car insurance. Current broker sent the usual renewal notice which was about £140 more than last year but were bigging themselves up for finding a more competitive quote which was only £80 more. Searched elsewhere via comparison sites and found the cover I need for about £100 less, i.e. less than I paid last year. Email to current brokers saying thanks but no thanks, not interested in you trying to match or better my new premium as I don't agree with the way you treat existing customers. I accept the this isn't going to change the way any of them operate but it made me feel a bit better.

  13. I'd this recently and got £7 odd quid back, what's that a very cheap pint of beer and packet of crisps.

  14. Must try harder!

  15. That's taken me right back to the old school report days.:(
