2021 Supersport 950

Discussion in 'Supersport (2016 onwards)' started by Lord Farquaad, Apr 10, 2021.

  1. So who’s taken the plunge? I took the new 950S out for a demo last week and I really enjoyed it. It really is a great bike. I tested the original back in 2017 and came very close to buying one but settled on keeping my Multistrada 1200 instead.

But the updated look, TFT and lockdown have convinced me to buy a new 950. It’s on order, just waiting for a delivery date.

  2. It does seem to get good reviews :)

  3. I have to say that power/weight wise, plus the stable cornering and slim profile made it feel like a 916 generation. Same smooth flowing ride. Throw in the single sided swing arm and the Panigale esq new fairing and I was sold. The TFT, IMU and quick shift evo were icing on the cake.
My only question was standard or S? The difference this generation appears to be the Suspension and seat cowl only. Given that I’ve stuck with the standard. I don’t ride on track so felt the upgrade wasn’t really worth it.

Oh and the standard only comes in Red (which is my choice colour).

  4. I really like the S, the first one looked a little odd at the front and I think the faring looked a bit ‘aftermarket’ but this looks like a much more finished bike. I’m tempted this year to look more seriously at one

  5. I would have bought another if they had done all the revisions a year earlier. I have toured my 2017 version since I bought it new, and it is a good bike. The biggest issue that I had was the heat. Living in the south of France made avoiding any towns or cities the norm, I could just about burn the insides of my legs at times.
It was a shame that the wife had a new Monster 821 at the time and the much nicer colour dash and footrests with rubber on them made that a much more modern looking bike.
The shame is that Ducati took too long to update the Supersport and beside that dealers are few and far between in France. I now have a BMW R1250RS and the girl has just ordered herself a BMW S1000XR.

  6. Yes I think they’ve nailed the front end. I’m not 100% on the exhaust but that I can change easily enough.

  7. I’ve had my SuperSport S for nearly 3 years and think it’s a great bike and been thinking of changing to the new model, so took the new S model out for a demo. Apart from the dash, hydraulic clutch and seat there did not seem enough difference to warrant the extra £5k(?) to change, although I might checkout the cost of the new seat as it is a definite improvement. Also the mirrors still vibrate of course and a new feature on full lock the bars crush your fingers against the fairing which I did find out the hard way. Still a great bike though but maybe wait to see if Ducati come up with some free offers as in the original launch.

  9. I seem to see more white ones than red! They look good in white but my last Multistrada was white so I really want red this time. Shame there’s no yellow.

  10. You could do what my friend has done with his Panigale V4S and get it wrapped :)

  11. I also don’t think they have changed much at all. Bit like a facelift on a car they have just altered the fairing a little like they seem to do with most models.
Not enough to spend a few grand on to change.

  12. I have to agree, if I had the old model I wouldn’t be changing to the new. But for those of us without one, it’s a nice new look. It’s a shame they didn’t include cruise control, but other than that I really can’t see what else they could’ve included.

  13. I agree, man maths says that for an extra £5k you get a newer version of the old bike or you could get a £5 toy like a royal Enfield ! Shoot me down in flames but there more chance of getting the handbrake (wife) riding/pillion on that than my SSS !

  14. Picked her up today from Woods Abergele. Rode 100 miles home (the long way) but the heavy hail, sleet, rain and occasional snow called time on any real fun. Had to wash it when I got home.

First impressions are good, the TFT is clear and modern, the quick shifter was smooth. I could easily find neutral (always struggled before first service on other Ducati’s).

It sounded great, handled well and gave me plenty of confidence.

Mirrors were rubbish, vibrating too much to be useful.

    The looks are killer!

  15. Congrats! I do think Ducati need to sort the mirror situation! It’s bad on the super bikes but I guess it’s not high in the priority but the Supersport ones look even more vibey if that’s even possible

  16. Vibration is the least of your worries if you can’t see past your own leathers. My girlfriend is a fraction of my size and even she can’t see anything. Andy

  17. I can see enough behind me and pulling in the clutch momentarily clears them 100%. But you shouldn’t have to do that. Guess I’ll read through all the different threads and try to improve the situation. The weather (rain and spray) didn’t help today.

  18. As a temporary solution, I’ll be fitting a bar end mirror. Andy

  20. I have not had my 2017 long and to date I could not be happier. I think the looks of the old model are still killer and perhaps if I was bothered enough the new fairing could be made to fit, once a couple have been binned and there are some used ones about :). The only thing that would make me change at this point was if they gave it a tad more power, but they didn't. So I won't.
