Power 5

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by Mossbo, Mar 29, 2021.

  1. Has someone any experience with the Michelin Power 5 tires?, I am planning on installing them om my Multistrada 1260S, I never go on gravel. Will attend to some trackdays and don not care about long lifetime.
Any comments on those tires, cannot find much, but seems they are also okey in the wet.

  2. Mossbo, are you sure that you want power 5s on a Multistrada?

Only asking because they are classed as a Supersport tyre? I bought two of them a while ago to use on my Panigale and never got either of them past 1,500 miles, both punctured at around that mileage, one after the other, they seem to have a very thin carcass.
Never had a puncture for years before that and both of these power 5s puncture one after the other??

I would have thought that the road 5s would be better suited to a multi?
All our group tend to use them and they are really good road tyres, the fastest guy in our group gets the edges all snotty on the road, they give a really surprising amount of grip , keep their profile well and even thrashing them, they’ll do 4,000 miles plus.

  3. I’m currently evaluating the Metzeler Sportec M9RR having been a fan of the M7RR. I don’t believe the hype and a claimed 4000 mile life, I never got near 3000 miles on the M7RR. Probably done about 1000 miles so far and the tyre has not given me any concerns. Pushed on today on a familiar route and the grip is certainly as good as the M7RR and it held the tight lines almost too easily. It is most definitely a scratching tyre, I’ll be using Roadtec 01SE’s for touring. Andy

  5. I am looking for best grip in dry and still okey in the cold and wet. Milage I do not care about. As per my understanding the Power 5 is suitable for some trackdays and the Road 5 will not handle that part well. Correct me if I am wrong please.

  6. I put a Metzeler M9 on the front of mine, I love how it quickens up the turn. I’m just about to put one on the rear.

    It fits your description.

  7. Just to say i actually have the power rs on mine, but as before ,highly recommend.

  8. I like the feel of the power rs, grip is outstanding and confidence inspiring.despite the lack of sypes on the rs they are great in the wet too, however, they are dual compound and the interface between the two compounds formed a ridge as they wore, you can clearly see the compound line on poucher’s post above. I had to change the rear at about 2500 miles.

  9. I’ll never use power rs’s again after those two punctures, carcass is too thin and easily damaged for my liking

  11. i have had no issue with Road 5s on track, but I have had issue with the brakes overheating and getting very spongy.

  12. Thanks for all inputs, I will mount the Power 5 tires in some weeks, finger crossed!

  13. Have you considered Conti SportAttack4?

Winning or coming joint top with Bridgestone S22 in a lot of tyre tests in Europe, and although no direct experience of the SA4, I really liked SA3 and they wear well for such a performance orientated road tyre.

  14. Update; Power 5 has been tested for some weeks now, both on road and track. Works really well! Grippy and easy to turn. Also had one stint with rain, and was doing okay, I did not push hard so it’s hard to say more. No rubboon the rear tire shoulder as some reports of Michelins on Multistradas.
Very happy with the performance overall. What a difference to the Scorpion Trails!

  16. There is a tyre test in the June edition of Practical Sportsbikes magazine - comparing :

    Metzeler Sportec M9RR
    Continental SportAttack 4
    Dunlop SportSmart 3
    Michelin Power 5
    Bridgestone Battlax S22
    Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II

All fitted to the Super Duke 1290R so they got a good workout. The winner was the Michelin Power 5, beating the Metzeler M9RR by a single point.

    Interesting read.

  17. Hi Duncan, The dealer fitted new tyres before selling it, the Pirellis I traded it in with were very worn.
