Big Hike In Insurance Cost

  1. Swot!

  2. Some didn't like the teacher's pet etc, but most probably yes for the classroom.

  3. Got far worse than that!

  4. Some of mine were more to the tune of “I don’t know why you bother coming in”

In the past I’ve found new bike models are more difficult/expensive to insure purely because they haven’t been classed by the underwriters yet so you can’t just select the bike from a comparison drop down and have to speak to insurance companies directly who then also can’t select the model from a drop down on their system and have to call the underwriters who then have to have a quick look through last weeks MCN, then they pull out their pub darts and go with the calculation of dart 1 x dart 2 x dart 3. Takes around 6mths before someone actually looks the bike up and classes it correctly.

  5. A couple of years ago when asking around for my car renewal I had some fun when asked about any “claims”, I said that as I’d paid to ”protect” my no claims and hadn’t gone beyond that cover the question was irrelevant ! Obviously they wouldn’t accept that answer...the whole insurance gig is a scam / cartel - I used to be insured with MCE (cheap) they failed to deal with a breakdown (ie left me stranded despite paying for breakdown cover) and I asked for a partial refund and they told me to FO yet when I changed bike 3 months into a fully paid annual policy they quoted me a crazy premium or zero money back to cancel ! I’m now with BeMoto who seem sensible but I’m keen for them to change my opinion of insurers as in my experience just treating their customers as scum. Insurance has become a commercialised tax rather than a product that protects our risk of bike / car ownership !

  6. Protected NCB is the biggest racket going. Doesn’t protect you from feck all.
3 times I’ve claimed on my bike insurance, (stolen, ran out of talent no one else involved and hit diesel and low sided into an oncoming car), each time it knocked I think 3yrs off my NCB which resulted in a rise in the next years premium of a grand total of about £15. I think the quotes to protect my NCB was about £30!

    Tuono V4 factory £175
    Husqvarna FE350....... 1p!!! I kid you not

  9. If you value your bike over the £20k mark, premiums sky rocket.

Here’s my personal findings- I haven’t road ridden for years but recently bought a KTM SDR. I have no no claims or fuck all since I have no recent road bike ownership history. The KTM valued at £11k came in at £278 fully comp. Not bad, yes please.

When I tried the same thing insuring my V4S when I got it (March 2018) and valued at ~£22k, the best I could get was £8.5k fully comp.

  10. It's something that the insurance industry intentionally doesn't make clear that protected NCB doesn't prevent your policy rising in the event of a claim. The base policy will still be loaded in accordance with your claim history. However, within limits stipulated in the policy regarding protected NCB the number of years and hence the discount applied to the base premium will not be reduced. You still need to declare previous claims, accidents etc.

  11. yeah I get that it’s just in my own experience the cost to protect my NCB is higher than not protecting it and just accepting the loss of years NCB when a claim is made (usually a loss of 3yrs worth, no matter how much the claim), the extra in insurance the following year because I’ve only got 6 instead of 9yrs NCB and including the claim to my history is still less than I would have spent protecting my NCB.

  12. I was with Ducati insurance for years because of the Desmo, decided last year there must be a better option given I don't ride the thing, ended up insuring my Pani (and subsequently my KTM) with Bemoto and the Desmo with Hiscox for about a grand less than I was paying previously.

More recently I've just changed cars, I was paying around £350 for my old car, informed the insurers of the pending change, they wanted an additional £800 for the 6 months left to run!!! I did a few on-line quotes and managed to insure the car for £500 for 12 months...

Then by some good timing the other half's insurance was up, so they offered a multicar policy, reduced mine by £112 and saved her £100 on her renewal quote also.

  13. MCN Compare V4R, £8608.12. not ridden on road for a bit so my previous no claims are lost apparently. I’ve just insured a 450 bhp 80k Porsche for £560. Bike is now for sale I didn’t tell them it’s 234 bhp. D673D2F1-F980-4C1F-8F4A-D14B0610BF74.png

  14. I remember trying to insure my 1199 Tricolore, I used MCE and they quoted something daft like £6.5K, they phoned up about an hour later, guy asking if I'd like to proceed with my on-line quote. I asked have you seen the quote? At that point the line went silent for a few seconds before he replied and said I guess you won't be proceeding then?

  15. 911 GTS by chance??

  16. My last school report said that if I wanted to continue my education, then I would have to di it elsewhere. So I did.

Best move that I ever made. Wound up being sponsored by Rolls-Royce and they eventually paid for me to go to uni. I was one of the richest students going! Apart from the "book" grant every term, for holidays such as Easter just gone, they would pay me normal salary for Good Friday, Bank Holiday Monday and the day after (as RR gave everybody the day after a bank holiday as another day's holiday). I bought my first Ducati when I was at Uni!

  18. I renewed mine recently , the Triumph with MCE went down £20 , the Ducati went up by £10 with Bennett's .

  19. Been following the posts so I was prepared for the worst when I decided to buy a Triumph Trident to make biking easier on my aging body. After the usual transfer between departments to get a quote for a relatively new model I was astonished to be told there would be no extra charge and I would only need to pay the usual £40 admin fee to add it to my policy. Not only that but when I renewed my policy a month ago the premium had gone down by almost £100. Full marks to Carole Nash!

  20. Are you guys declaring mods such as race exhaust, carbon parts etc .?
