Ducati Panigale Track Noise Levels Thread

  1. FYI the db sensors at brands are on the inside (exit) of clearways mounted to the marshalls post at the pit entrance.

    And going up Hailwood hill on the inside.

  4. Cheers. I knew about the one going up Hailwood Hill, it used to ping my R6 for fun despite passing static test no problem as it was just before a gear change at the top end of the rev range. Didn't know there was another one at clearways. I'm not very good at rolling off though!

  7. I've run with the baffles in at Snetts and SS and Cadwell with no issues at all
    The static is always an issue, but most tracks like Snetts/Cadwell that do a static are ok as its a Panigale and I normally ask them that if I fail the ride bye I'll go home..

    I have at cadwell in the past put the internal db killers AND the external Akra ones in to get to 102-103 at Cadwell for the static and then just remove the external ones and no issues at all when riding .

    They look to work at Oulton as well - and I reckon at Brands will be ok , if you get by the static , if its a MSV you shouldn't have an issue as they are aware of the Panigale static issues

  8. @Spud312r cheers for the info. I was talking to Mark at MHP who i've used in the past for my R6 and he reckons that repacking the cans with acoustafill and a pair of his custom long baffles will get it down to 102 static for Brands.

    I've got an ACU test day at Brands booked for 4th April that'll be 105 and the first time i get to test it. Then a trackday there on the 15th which will be 102db. The cans are with MHP now so I'm hoping that'll it'll be fine at least for the 105 and then I'll have a week or so to see if i need to do more for the 102 day.

    I bought a £20 home db meter for a bit of a before and after getting the cans repacked just out of interest, even if it doesnt relate exactly to the noise tester at Brands I thought it would be interesting for a play around. It read 113 with no baffle, 110 with the little stubby baffles I had already and 109 with baffles and it in gear. Leaning it over didnt seem to make much difference, nor did standing directly behind the bike versus at 45 degrees or 90 degree to the side.

    I'll let you know how i get on.
     
  9. Thought I'd post a little update on this and I'm pleased to report success! Did a day at Brands Indy yesterday and it measured 101db on the static test.

    The bike is a 959 with standard headers and the Ackra under belly exhaust cans. The bike is new to me so sent the cans off to Mark at MHP to be repacked and bought a set of his custom baffles at the same time. I got it all fitted and like i said blew 101 static test so I'm happy with that. There's some adjustment in the baffle too so if you wanted a bit more gas flow and a bit more noise that can be achieved by taking out a grub screw and sliding the performated tube further down.

    If you're struggling with noise I would suggest give MHP a shout.

  10. Did you notice any difference in throttle response/low speed idle, with the baffles at their quietest position; so to speak?
     
  11. It was the first and only time I’ve ridden the bike so don’t have anything to compare it to unfortunately.

    Certainly no issues that I noticed though, the throttle and fuelling felt pretty crisp still hustling the old boy around Brands.

  13. So, 2nd May 2021 on Brands Indy - 1299 with underbelly Akra and Pipe Wrex baffle, manage to get it down to 105db and the guys are OK to let me on (the OEM sticker of 1299 says its factory rated at 108db at 5250rpm!!!!)

    Doing Brands GP in June, not sure whether I want to risk it but shall see.

  14. 959. Underbelly Akra system. No flapper. Wet mode, leant over. Pipewerx closed end baffles. 102Db.

  15. 959 as above. Donny 98Db drive by. No baffles. Black flagged at over 102 Db.
    Pipewerx baffles inserted and out again. One clear session then black flagged again. 99.8Db. Early bath.
    Go figure!?:mad:
     
  16. That’s really inconsistent - you wouldn’t think a 102 static bike could trigger the drive-by meter. Mine always tests 105db static and seems pretty loud - to the point that I actually saw 1 MSV guy comment to another about it the last time I was there, while waiting to exit the pit lane.

    That was a 98db day and I was wondering if I would get pulled - I was sat there idling and even though I couldn’t hear then exchange of words it was really obvious what was being said: ‘that’s too loud surely?’ Shakes head- ‘No mate they get special treatment’.

    Nobody actually approached the bike to check the exhaust though and I figured they would if I tripped the meter.
     
  17. Very inconsistent. Spence was out on his v2 with the same system and only the Akra baffles. And clearly he is much faster than I am. But no flag. And several V4s out there too :thinkingface:
    The guy said there is a bit of a pissing match going on with the airport as to who was causing most nuisance so I think they are cracking down on “quiet” days. Crackers when the jets are going over every few minutes.

    EDIT. On the plus side it sounds fvken amazing. :cool:

  18. That must have been you I was chatting with briefly at 100% suspension then I guess :thinkingface:, I was on the black V4 with standard system, @DRR117 was there on his 1199 with full underseat Termi system, bafffles in, he had no noise issues though :neutral:
    Agree, no consistency with noise limits at any track it seems.

  19. I might be able to shed some light on these apparent inconsistancies. So, a couple of years back at Donnington I was on my 899 with baffles. I went through the morning sessions no problem. First afternoon session I opted to go around with an instructor. At the end of the session the instructor said that I was turning in to early at Goddards. So, second afternoon session, focus on my line into Goddards, a couple of laps into the session and I'm black flagged for exceeding drive-by noise limit, told to go and fix it. The only thing that had changed was my line into Goddards. So third afternoon session, changed back to my old line into Goddards, no problem, I complete the whole session. My conclusion from all this is that the trackside microphone is somewhere near a late Apex at Goddards. Which would explain the inconsistancies, between bikes. Roll the clock forward to earlier this year and a Classic Bike Trackday. Took my CB400F out which hits 115dB at Static. Kept to my old line and again no issues. So thought I'd test my theory on the location of the trackside Microphone again with a late apex into Goddards. Black Flagged!
