1299 Akrapovic Db Killers Panigale R ??

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Makarra, Apr 15, 2021.

  1. Any idea folks what Silencers these DB killers attach to?

When I got my Pani R back in 2017, it came fitted with a Full Race Akrapovic System. In a box I was also given a few other bits and pieces such as the all important stock number plate bracket which might never see the light of day... but coming back to the Silencer query! In the box was also included the Stock Akrapovic Silencers that come Standard with a Pani R.

I also found the pictured DB Killers, although they don't attach in any way to neither the Race nor Stock Silencers. I've tried to see if they'd fit a couple of times over the years but never found a way. I've never handled DB Killers before and in the end I just parked the idea to one side as it wasn't a priority.

When I had an issue with the Quickshifter looked into by my mechanic in November 2020, I used the opportunity to show him the DB Killers and he said they definitely weren't for any of the Silencers that came with my Pani...

  2. Look similar to akrapovic race system to me. The screw to secure them is where the arrow is.

    Hope that helps.

  3. The screw on my db killer appears to be in right sort of place to line up with where you put that yellow arrow, only thing is that my db killer doesn't slot into place at all... either way, thanks for getting back to me ;)

  4. Theyre for the akra. I have a pair also.

  5. When I gave fitting them a go the first couple of times, I thought that they looked like they might fit, but I didn't wanna force the issue in case I got it wrong... so when I showed them to the mechanic and he said they weren't the correct ones, I thought fair enough, that's why they're not going in... although it sounds as if it's time for me to get the soft hammer out and give it another go!

  6. Yep they look the same as my Akra race can baffles.
They do take a bit of a jiggle to fit. Not sure if it says on the baffles which side they are meant for, as im sure they can only fit one way. Maybe some type of appropriate (ceramic?) lube may help?
Once I've got mine mainly into position, I put something into the fixing hole at the top to line it up before using the screw.
The baffles are a pain to fit. Use the bluetac/superglue/ magnet trick!

  7. Yep, theyre a snug fit. Even more of a bastard to get out. I only ever trial fitted mine, did a noise test, then swifly removed them. I say swiftly when I meant swearily.

  8. In fact, just leave them out! Sounds a lot better!!
(Unless you need them for trackdays!)

  9. You are aware the angled side goes towards outside?

  10. I did nt really notice much difference with the baffles out tbh.

It's loud and sounds good with them in to be fair.

  11. hey buddy, only just seen your message. First time I attempted to line them up years ago, I'd never handled or seen a pair of db killers before, so when I struggled to fit them in one way, I must admit that I tried to fit them in every other way possible to cover all possibilities! Since then, did some research about the direction for fitment, but still no joy. For now it all remains a mystery!

  12. The reality is that I've been carrying them in my luggage touring around Europe for years just in case the feds have an issue with the high audio output of the Pani... so far so good and in all fairness, I'm not sure that putting the db killers in would make much of a difference if they already have in mind to issue some sort of fine or worse... it's just more recently that it has been crossing my mind more often about the fitting, given that if it does come to a point when I need to install them and they won't go in then there's not much point in carrying them around. Trackday wise, for now I've been sticking to hitting the circuits in Spain where so far I've not had any issues with db limits

  13. Dont loose them. You'd be surprised how much they cost. My bike didnt come with them and I had to buy them from Akra. They were £72 inc VAT EACH!

V-TUV138 & V-TUV138L are the part numbers in case anyone needs some.

  14. Whatever silencer they're for... at £72 each they're worth keeping! they're probably for mine so I must try harder next time... I just prefer to be best prepared if I'm ever really forced to fit them for whatever reason, although really deep down and as you touched upon earlier in relation to swiftly and swearily removing them, I have no interest in restricting any part of my Pani! ;)

  15. I feel like I can't sleep until we figure out this mystery as to why they aren't fitting!!

  16. I'd be hammering them in as I type if the Pani was right here by my side... alas... the "angry italian tractor" is kept a fair distance away from my home in a remote bat-cave which makes sorting the simple stuff out not as simple as just having keeping the Pani at home... it's just the way it goes when living in central London... I'm due to bring it home over a weekend to service it a little so I'll give the silencers another crack at the same time and see how it goes ;)

  17. Refitted mine today. Still sound good and saves giving old bill an easy excuse for a ticket.

  18. The most action my Pani sees in the UK is from central London to the ferry port a few times a year given that I pretty much use it for touring abroad... I heavily suspect that if I used it any more regularly around here other than to keep it ticking over now and again, I reckon the old bill would've at some point pulled out the "Stop" hand given the heavy audio sounds that the Akra System pumps out... I do what I can to behave myself :p:joy:
