Desert Sled Desert Sled Been Sat Advice To Start Using

Discussion in 'Scrambler' started by Dirty Leeds, Apr 15, 2021.

  1. @XH558 kindly and thoughtfully passed on an eBay advert which in turn i gave to a friend/customer who was seeking one...he went and bought it this morning as it was local to him.

He is based in Solihull and a good specialist in the midlands for him or rather a recommended specialist somewhere near Solihull would be appreciated ...I guess it needs belts? And won’t have had an oil change it’s only got 90 miles on it.

  2. Belts are every 5 years. Andy

  3. Really? Cheers that’s a bonus

  4. Would you change the oil if it’s over 3 years old yet only had 90 miles use? Or just go to 1st service? Cheers

  5. The oil in the bike when delivered, is a lightweight oil designed to help the running in process and must be changed at 600 miles or 6 months whichever cones first. I would recommend your friend changes the oil and filter using a good quality 10w40 oil like Motul 7100 (other good quality 10w40 oils are available). Andy

  6. Cheers andy, does that mean it doesn’t get run in by the book though if it’s a non lightweight oil

  7. As far as I'm aware, the oil used by Ducati is not commercially available but that said, I'd go for the 10w40 and not be quite so gentle with it. Don't strain the engine but give a few more revs, go up and down the box rather than staying in high gear. Get to 500 miles, look at the oil and if clean and still cherry red (if you used Motul) just ride it. Andy

  8. Cheers andy :upyeah:
