Fuel Cans For Track Days

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by chrisb1299, May 10, 2021.

  1. What are peoples preference and experience with the seemingly hundreds of options for this? I got away with sharing and a couple of tiny jerry cans last year but am looking into some form of 20L option to make life easier as I was using 5-6L a session based on when the fuel light was coming on. Have seen the VP and Tugg Jug ones but I imagine they aren't as easy to use as they make it out to be?!

  2. Don't forget, legally, garages can stop you filling any can over 10 ltr unless its metal. They may not, but its shit to find out the night before a trackday that your local services are jobsworths. Decent 20ltr metal jerry can and a good 5 ltr jug with a lid is the simple way forward.

  3. I use a 20l metal fuel can and also have a couple of 5l plastic cans. I would not be without the 5l jug to easily measure the the amount I put in between each session...

  4. I use two big 20L Jerry cans.

And I’ve got a fuel rig dump churn thing I use for fuelling instead of a fuel jug

  5. I’ve got 2 x 20L plastic cans and just fill at a self service station, then a 5L jug to fill the bike.
Not enough for an open pit though and then get shafted by the MSV pump prices.

  6. Just saw that Aldi are selling 20L Jerry cans in store from Thursday 13 may for £17.99

  7. 20L plastic cans or metal Jerry can. Just get one with a quality lid and a jug as suggested (makes it loads easier). I also have a funnel for filling the jug.

Or take one of those fancy
    things @Advikaz said.

  8. Well I did not know about this! I just did some googling and some links are coming up stating that you can't fill over 5L if it's plastic! Like you say, I don't fancy dropping £30+ on a plastic can to then find out they won't let me fill it! Seems like a metal 20L for now and stick with the little 5L is the best option. Thanks all!

  9. I have a 20l plastic fuel can, been using it for 20 years, been stopped once and told I couldn’t fill it at a garage. It wouldn’t put me off buying another plastic one.

  10. Never been stopped filling a 20L plastic can. I always do it in the side of the van though.

  11. I have 2 20l metal cans from Halfords and a 5l plastic measuring jug.

  12. Get a couple. Can’t beat a Jerry can. Basic, perfectly functional and last forever.

As said above, I use Jerry cans and decant into a 5 litre plastic jug.

  13. 2x 20ltr metal cans and a hand held transfer pump ( hand or battery operated) have been part of my bike kit since I started out on the track [IMG]

  14. Another vote for 20l metal container and a 5l dispensing jug with spout
