(small) Bike Things You've Done Today

  1. Went out to the supermarket on the DT175 but the low oil light came on so due to the configuration of the roads i had to do a 3 mile nipsy-twitching loop to get back home in order to top up the tank. Went out again and this time ran out of petrol about 1.5 miles from home. Thank fk the bike only weighs 100kg

  5. Fitted the holding straps to my KTM for my Kriega, I can carry drinks with me round Wales on a bimble and choose where to stop instead of it being some garage forecourt cos my pockets can’t carry much more than a pound coin.

  6. Washed off the crud accumulated during an oberved ride this morning, using my Worx battery powered washer. Quick and easy. Andy

  7. Continued with 900ss maintenance.

However, tales of Zhed "ring dinging" about on his DT175 prompted me to fire up my SB200 - It is now insured and booked in for an MOT next week. It is a hoot to ride and sounds and feels like you are doing about 160 mph when only doing 60 mph.

    Also shortened some mirrors:

  8. I went out today on the Monster for the first time in a long time, without being with a group of teenagers on their 50s / 125s so the chicken strips have been abused, the rev limiter has been bounced off and many decibels have been released through the open Termis... I 'kin love my Monster

  9. Took the bar risers (up and back) off my GS.

  10. After 9 years installed on my Multistrada, my Biketrac unit has started to behave a little oddly. If I turn the bike on to move it around in my garage, the unit doesn't reset when I turn it off, the app tells me the unit thinks it is still on a journey. Had a chat with the guys at Biketrac and things have moved on since my early unit was installed, turns out the inbuilt sim can only access one service provider, EE I think and that signal where I am is weak. The latest units can access 2. Upshot, decided to get a new unit which arrived next day and is now fitted and working properly. Usual excellent service from Biketrac. Andy

  11. Yesterday I rode into central London on the S4R.

After not doing that sort of riding for over a year now it made me realise,

    (a) how perilous it is with having to avoid the mere 70% of drivers fiddling with some kind of device, suicidal cyclists suddenly switching lanes, pedestrian phone zombies launching themselves into the road and now those daft and frankly dangerous eScooters, all while trying to process the blizzard of confusing information from the signage at the same time as avoiding the cynical little traffic enforcement traps TFL lay for you, and;

    (b) how life-affirming it is when you make it out alive and without having incurred a fine or points on your licence.

  14. Awesome! I love a good bodge.

My favourite ever was when a blanking bolt unwound itself out of an unused emissions fitting on the intake system of my mate’s Nissan 300zx turbo, causing a massive air leak and a non-running engine. He was out in the countryside and so he dug up a spud from the field he’d broken down next to and he jammed it over the spigot in order to bung up the hole. All was fine and it got him home but he totally forgot about it (knowing him, he’d probably been blind drunk at the time) until the car broke down again a few weeks later and apparently a very bemused AA man couldn’t work out why there was rotten mashed potato everywhere

  15. There’s a chap selling a kit for £8 on the KTM 790 page I thought no way, the play was really annoying in traffic this has cured it.

  16. Fitted some small cones to the throttle bodies of the 900ss bobber as the air box is now adapted as a hidey hole for all the electrickery. Unfortunately the slightly wider, red, cones wouldn’t fit as one of them fouled the fuel pressure regulator but I’ll try to see if I can find these smaller ones in red.

On the upside though, the induction roar is truly King Kong-esque :D

Got to use the TD slicks at Donny Wed. It was about 14 degrees max. I’m not that fast but to me they felt like a Pirelli SC. I used warmers and had no moments on them at all and found they gave good confidence. I had the rear wheel off the ground going into Goddards. Pressures were set 25r/31f cold and did not change pressures all day. Rear can be flipped for extra wear.
Several of the guys on litre bikes were running them and seemed impressed.

  18. Excellent, thank you. In Spain, I ran my SC's (SC2) at 23/29 cold in an ambient of mid 20's °C, so a good starting point in October. Andy

  19. Went in the garage to remove the generator cover from the 1098R.
Got as far as removing the RH fairing (LH previously removed). Felt rubbish. Came in. Had a cup of tea.
    Fail.
