would put it down to one of the tolerable hazards of ownership myself. I don't think that will hang around, at least two dealers currently have similar, with higher mileage, fairing and cosmetic "issues" for almost twice the price.
I'm surprised this lovely Panigale V2 / R has not sold yet. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12468502...rentrq:69edae6f1790ad396b4eb910ffdcd5ea|iid:1

I've not seen a 1098r for under £20k in recent times, which would you prefer out of the two motorcycles if you'd the chance to purchase.
Not seen a 1098R actually change hands for that sort of money for the best part of a year. Pretty sure the last one to be put up for sale here was £16k and that took time to sell. I not looking for an 1198, I have a 1098R Andy
Until Jan this year I lived 5 miles away from where this bike is located. He had an 1198S listed last year, but put me off viewing it. He then listed this SP for around £12k a couple of months ago, I contacted him about viewing it, and over night he put the price up £2k. I'm looking for a bike to put a couple of thousand miles a year on, so a 1299S seems like a better option for around that money.
Your probably right as buying an R you could strip thousands from the return sale value in years to come.
I'd have seriously considered it for £16k, but it was never offered for that AFAIK. Plus I think it had hardly turned a wheel since having a big engine rebuild.
Plus I reckon the SP is just an 1198S with an alloy tank and a TTX shock. Both well worth having, but not for an extra £4k.
