1260 Corrosion Under Water Pump Cover

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Blairso, Sep 4, 2019.

  1. No the dealer in that case was P&H in Crawley but I also use Pro Twins

  2. Well Ducati came through for me, agreed to change both sides of the engine case and suggested I put some protective film on the right hand side to protect from boot rub!! Strange this has never happened on my previous 4 MTS, is the engine case wider and closer to the foot pegs on the 1260 or just bad design, anyway all’s well that ends well

  3. Glad this got sorted for you. Shame it needed to be escalated though.

  4. Checked mine at the weekend (on my Enduro 1260) and looks OK. Treated with a bit of ACF50 to keep it that way. Oh and ordered the billet Aluminium cover.

  5. Great stuff Franksie, glad they agreed to resolve it for you, as indeed they always should have.

  6. Going to ditch the plastic cover, any recommendations do an alternative which also looks better?

  7. I got the Ducabike one 03997600-1B7D-4ACA-8A67-B90DBAB865B0.jpeg

  10. Holy fuck, that's a mess! Get it replaced.

Day one, I took mine off and slathered it with ACD 50 and put it back on. Not checked since then and I've ridden through some pretty bad rain storms. Might have a look tonight.

  11. Take it off and leave it off

  12. Why dont all dealers recommend buyers to take it off on the QT ? We know its a prob stop it b4?? Or is it sale done not worried about customer
Duc ayles r replacing thank u

  13. It was bought in to help pass noise tests, the foam just traps water and salt, the plastic probably doesn’t offer much protection anyway (previous models didn’t have the cover).

  14. I am equally annoyed with the finish on the clutch cover side, the foot peg and brake pedal are too narrow so boot rubs against the casing, just had a new one fitted, short trip home and being careful I still managed to mark the new one grrrrr, never an issue with previous 4 MTSs, needless to say it’s now coated in 3m heli tape till I find a better solution

  15. Unbloody believeable, I picked up my bike from the dealers this week, took off the plastic cover to fit a Ducabike water pump protector only to find that the new replacement case was already corroded!!!!, Cant believe that they would fit a corroded one as a replacement, to say Im pissed is an understatement IMG_6248.JPG IMG_6250.JPG IMG_6251.JPG IMG_6252.JPG

  16. Absolutely incredible. Get back onto them, demand rectification as well as full reimbursement of all of your costs for travelling and the time spent. Disgraceful approach....

  17. Already been onto Ducati Italy, Ducati UK warranty dept and the dealers, Dealers say they repalced what was authorised (*come to that in a bit) and Ducati say it was an oversight by the dealers and have given them the go ahead to replace it

    * When the bike was with the dealers for the warranty you would of thought they would of spotted all the corrision (its not exactly unnoticable !!! and put a claim into Ducati to replace all of the affected parts, Grrrrr. Left me at an all time low with regards to the service backup and the brand, they have now lost a sale of a V4 as that idea is scapped for the time being and a question mark over whether I remain a loyal follower of the brand, like most, Ive had issuses with all the MTSs that Ive owned (warped discs, fuel senders, seat covers, ICUs etc) but rolled with the punches as I love the bikes and have never had this issue, gave them the keys and they sorted out the problems but this last issue has been a PITA!, 3 weeks off the road, taxi back from the dealers, taxi to the dealers to collect, time off work to collect, all leaves a bitter feeling towards the dealers that will be hard fought to win me over again

  18. Just to chirp in with my 2019, 1 owner 2000 mile bike.
Took the cover of today following advise here and no foam to be found, just a slight piece where it was glued to the inside of the plastic cover. Paint work looked all good to me.
Now the previous owner told me he did low miles and never rode it in the rain due to lockdown etc. The guy has the wealth to buy a new bike every 2 years and didn't strike me as a hands on fix it yourself type when I spoke with him.
So Id guess the dealer (Aylesbury) either took it off when new, or when it came in on PX 18 months later as they'd figured there was a problem by then !

  19. This is a short extract from the original reply I got from Ducati "there has been a dedicated technical bulletin supplied to dealers early in 2020 where they are requested to remove the foam sound deadening that holds water causing the issue with the cover"

It sounds like the foam was removed from yours at sometime during a service

  20. That didn't get to Ducati Amsterdam then, as I picked up my new 1260 GT in towards the end of last year and the foam is still there. I'm actually gonna go down and check it in a moment for corrosion as I did spray and soak the foam with ACF 50 when I first bought it. Then I'm gonna go for a ride as it's finally stopped riding here in NL!
