  1. Is it ? It never featured there

I like pikes peak name. It gives unique character to an otherwise a GS copy-paste.

  2. It kind of did , didn’t complete the race because the rider was killed .

  3. Oh right, sorry completely forgot about it.

Killed is a bit of harsh word. More like high sided on a bump reported many times to local authorities that hasn't done a jack shit about it in 10 years

  4. It’s not so much well yes it is but the damm insurance costs which is ridiculous for townies eg London even if my dog is tied to the bike bike trac ground anchors it’s crazy
    V4 pikes peak 23k

  5. Why should I have to buy a sports bike for it to look pretty ?
I have a Panigale but they arent exactly designed for 2 up touring with full luggage...
Thats why I have a Multistrada too.
I want the bike to ride well and look good too, and currently I'm not enamoured by the looks of the V4 compared to the DVT, or even the Enduro.

  6. Me neither. I love the bikes you mention, look fantastic, I can ride one for around 20 minutes too ! 916/996/998 best looking bike ever made

  7. Ordered one.

  8. Which model?

  9. V4S. No extra stuff, I don’t like riding with hard panniers and don’t need the adaptive cruise control.
It’s plenty enough for me as it is.

  10. Great enjoy...we should make a club and check emails from guys who don't like the bike and see what the MPG they quote. One guy got into single figures i think!

  11. Holy crap !!
What was he doing, riding everywhere flat out in first ?!?

I really hope the usable fuel range is similar to the 1200 was, else that becomes another reason for me not to change (nearly said upgrade, but not convinced it is)

  12. No John, this was the comment from guys who don't like the bike reporting the MPG figures

  13. ok. its not a big deal to me if its reported rather than actual.
I assume this is the instantaneous value (which I never bother to look at).

  14. Some more info...

"It’s also clear from these photographs that Ducati have stuck with the performance focused ethos of the Pikes Peak edition. The electronic Skyhook suspension is gone in favour of fully adjustable Öhlins to appeal to riders who never want to go off road while a set of Brembo Stylemas appear to be biting a set of 330mm discs – both from the Streetfighter V4.

Also interesting is that Ducati obviously see the BMW S1000XR as the competition, as they’re seen testing back-to-back against it on track."

It's gonna need another 20 ponies Claudio.

A few hundred bucks at BrenTuning will give you a 170 RWHP (~190 crank) XR.

  15. I hope it doesnt have light weight wheels like the previous pps.
They are too soft for two up use. Although I suppose a 2nd set of wheels could be used (more expense...)

  16. I still don't see the need for huge numbers when it comes to power. Unless you're tracking it regularly, it's realistically not usable. Don't get me wrong, my 1260 in Urban feels sluggish, but sports mode... Madness. That's with the full termi and mapping. Add another 30 on top of that power and I'd likely never notice it on the roads and.... Shock and horror, TOURING on it.

Ducati needs to stop falling into that trap of 'LOOK MA! I'VE GOT THE MOST POWER' and focus on delivering a functional product first.

  17. Agreed. Also, many people want to tour without the kitchen sink, maybe one up. Sometimes two up. A bloated, heavy, tall bike is not required. Standard 17" wheels, to take the biggest choice of sport/road/tour tyre choices. Nice handling, some wind protection "without" buffeting, high bars (as in not sport drop bars) and a decent seat. FFS how hard can it be to supply a half decent seat?

Seeing what the 1200gs can do, I would say good torque and 130bhp-160ish is more than enough. But unless going on track, which is not the target audience, then 160+ is just not needed. We all know what it does to back tyres anyway. My ktm GT could eat a rear sport touring tyre in 2k. Hate to think what soft rubber would have been like.

  18. I saw one in the flesh at Moto Rapido when I collected my bike last week, unfortunately the weather was bloody miserable so didn't hang around long but I liked what I saw, hopefully get back soon to take one out for a spin. I really couldn't give a toss about the mpg, as long as it'll do 120-150 cruising miles on a tank that'll do me, want to be stretching my legs by then anyway. The only thing that puts me off is the price so I'll probably look for a tidy used 1260 next year and then maybe a used v4 a couple after that?

  19. So - my 1100 scrambler was in for service today - so took out the V4 Multi - Top Spec one with Radar etc.

So I am a short arse - so in the low setting it was too tall in Touring - so had to swap to Urban until I got on the move.

Engine is very noisy and rattlie.

Bike goes OK, Stops OK, Handles OK, but engine did not have the charecter of the V2.

    Did around 50 miles....

The side stand is easier to deploy than the 1260

The Blind Spot Indicators are good

The quickshifter / bliper is good.

    Rear brake worked!!

Seat Heater worked (took me 20 minutes to figure out how to turn it off as it was 21'C outside and my ass was roasting)

But while everything worked OK - no real complaints other than the rattlie engine... I got back and had no desire to keep the keys or buy it...

Was a bit disapointed - because I was hoping that it would get me wanting one - and convince me to buy next years model with the SSSA and 17" Front Wheel (Hopefully same colour engine casings also)....

    But Alas... NO....

Maybe I will try the Multi 950?... but thats even taller...

  20. That's odd!

The engine on the V4 test ride bike I took out was really quiet and smooth with torque everywhere (up to the 7K running in limit). The V4 engine was way quieter than my 1260 and super smooth, in fact it was good enough to make me change :)
