Hi Hi I have a 2010 Multistrada 1200S Touring. The main key only activates when put right up to the Antenna on the bike, it’s been like this for a while. It behaves exactly as the Red key does. ITS NOT THE BATTERY in the key fob. Its a new CR2032 and I have tested it and it is producing 3.2v. My conclusion so far is that the antenna in the key is at fault and that I need a new key.... anybody have experience of this ? thanks
I answered on the other site too. The battery is a nominal 3 volt battery, but when new should have nearer 3.3 volts as the new spare one I just checked has. You are 10% below that, so new or not - I think your battery is ferked Its not unusual, 12 volt bike batteries should also be over 13 volts in practice for them to work properly Never use cheap eBay batteries, never use old batteries. ALWAYS carry a spare in the toolbox (fob battery, not bike battery lol).
Okay, I just had to change my fob battery as I got the low battery telltale on the dash. I installed a brand new Duracell that looked exactly the same as the Duracell I took out. No go, didn't work so tried another one out of the packet and that didn't work either. Spoke to my dealer's parts people and was advised to try a different make. Stuck an Energiser in the fob and everything worked fine. Go figure ! Andy
the key is faulty, buy a new one, or mount the antenna next to the small glove box on the rhside and deposit the defective key in it, it is then directly at the antenna
Glad you are sorted. I have seen the same 'issue' countless times. Never assume any battery is good just cos its new, when things dont work as expected. My new spare is also an energiser and as said, that is 3.3v out of the packet
