  2. I think everything has been said already, except a free mod that should be the very first thing you should do... and that is dial in the bike so it fits like a glove.

Ergos spot on for you, suspension set up perfectly. Every bike I've bought except one was miles off (even if it was for another rider).

Once a bike is super comfortable, the confidence mounts quickly...and the speed too. I can ride my 900ss faster in the twisty hills than my 999, it's purely down to the comfort, familiarity and experience with the bike (ok maybe smaller bike too, but you get the point)

Managed to show up a few old fireblades, which is damn good fun!

    Cheers

  3. I'll let you know something on that soon Jez. I have a set of Andreani Misano Evo cartridges on my bench waiting to go inside my non adjustable 2002 900i.e Sport 43mm 'Showa's' that probably are not Showa's, just look identical to them. I dare say your Monster (if around the same turn of the millenium vintage) would be the same / very similair. Just waiting on replacement bottom of cartridge alloy retaining housings from Brooks, as mine has a M10 1.5 35mm caphead retaining bolt, and the fully adjustable 900SS's a 14 mm (as the Andreani kit came with) compression damping bolt. Trap for old players that one was.

  4. Yep, just read a review of 2020 Yamaha R1M. GBP22k off the showroom floor. Alex Lowes only two seconds slower around Jerez than his full monty factory Superbike version.

  7. I look forward to hearing all about them! Though my forks are adjustable from the bottom, once the hole in the wheel spindle is aligned so an allen key can pass through. Odd that yours aren't too, perhaps someone took the originals off?

  8. Says the guy who bought a highly tuned 600:p

  9. Amd I bet people will still throw thousands at suspension and wheels :joy:

  10. You’re missing the point in recent posts: of course it’s easier to buy a bigger bike. But imagine the skills and engineering discoveries that would be missed out on?! Ok, fun to me isn’t remotely like this, but for many it is. Improving by 1% can be enough to feel like a triumph.

  11. Much worse than that

I got a stock bike and then highly tuned it :joy:

  12. My first post here but my 2 cents worth is that its human nature to try and improve or change things, some people have the focussed madness to add a few extra cylinders, others are content with that sporty air filter and job done. I agree with the comments about just buying the more powerful bike if power is your goal. Where it gets tricky is if you like your current platform but want it to perform just that bit better, the cost of gains on an already highly developed bike become exponential very quickly.

If you are interested in "tuning" as a hobby, all well and good just like the Mini with all the go fast bits. Fantastic project but we all know that you could spend a lot less on some modern car that will be better everywhere except the fun part. My 1299 is a great example, I sit in the shed occasionally and ruminate over how to improve it's performance and after spending all my imaginary money turning it into an X85R I bring myself back to earth by comparing it to the previous bike (Mk5 Le Mans) yep job done!

All Ive done is a remap, Akra's and filter to tidy up the power delivery and aural experience. Where I spend my money is on suspension and weight reduction (the latter being a serious case of diminishing returns)

The future hold a base V4 for me, the fun part will be the upgrading of cycle components but the power requirements have been solved by Ducati Mechannia and anyone who requires more raw HP for tootling about the street is slightly more mentally unwell than the rest of us.

  13. Cheapest way to gain power is to lose weight, no?

    Rider weight
    Lithium battery

I have done nothing to the engine on my Panigale.

it’s fine as it is for me

  14. The thread is straying off the original question in terms of the poster wanted to know realistic bhp gains re mods.

Unless you count rider weight loss as this way, you’ll only improve your power to weight ratio not absolute power.
