Got a guy who wants to buy something, £1500 so not cheap, and then me store until he can arrange collection. But he’s from Chile. Normally, I’d just give bank details and take the cash but being overseas makes me very wary…. I’m sure many on here have bought and some stuff overseas like this. Any tips/clues/advice? Pretty sure with my acc details they can’t actually do anything, end of the day it’s no different to giving someone a cheque, and I know I’ll end up with some fees so wondering if PayPal would be safer? Can they reverse the charge from a bank? (Think they can’t U.K. but is that different other countries?)
PayPal is safer, but can easily turn difficult if the buyer is minded to do so. Remember though that he also has to trust you so works both ways. https://www.mypos.eu/en/the-safety-...ke-money-from-your-account-with-these-details
I was scammed out of a few quid years ago on eBay. I complained to eBay and Paypal. eBay did nothing but PayPal refunded me straight away. PayPal works by just giving someone your email address, which the buyer has probably already got and so you can't be scammed unless they have more detail.
I’m sure someone on here said if the payment is through F&F, PayPal won’t refund. Just a thought. Andy
Just get them to use transferwise or something similar to minimise overseas charges. As you say, if you already happily sell things by bank transfer to uk punters (as do I), the foreign aspect makes no security difference.
I have used Transferwise, now called https://wise.com/ many, many times. Perfect service done affordably. He would have to do it though, he sends from his bank to Wise and then Wise transfers to your bank ..the fees are a fraction of bank-to-bank transfer. Cheers Grant
