V4 V4-sp ‘peelable Paint’ Job

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Kaspar, May 26, 2021.

  1. Hi Guys ,
Has anyone got a video or link to a good video demonstrating the complete removal of the V4 fairings ?
I’m getting my V4 pAinted in Peelable paint. A sort of liquid wrap so all the fairings and tank need to be removed.

I’m going to Spray her gloss black with a metallic silver tank . The great thing about this is it protects your original paintwork and peels off so you can change the colour or restore to factory paint when you want...

Perfect for all the track days shes going to be doing

  2. Start with the nose cone. That unlocks the side fairings. Be aware there's a million bastard fasteners. Just be patient and have a good butchers in all nooks and crannies. 1st time I did it I had about 20 bolts left over when I'd put it all back :D

  3. A 4mm T-bar comes in very handy too. The 4 bolts (two either side) of the nose cone are a bugger to get out without one.

  4. That is Giuseppe in the bodywork design studio’s fault. I have been tracking his career...
He was responsible for the bitch-bolt under the headlight on the 1098.
He was also responsible for the stupid front faring fastener on the 1299, the one where you knock off the spacer washer behind the fairing as you insert the bolt.
And now he’s released his piece-de-resistance on the V4. Yes, those two bolts (one behind the other) on each side of the headlight unit. The ones where the approach is downhill, so that the bolt falls off the end of the hex wrench just as it approaches the captive nut. From there it descends into the guts of the bike, usually lodging somewhere near the coolant overflow bottle.
Next time I go to the factory at Bologna I am going to seek him out and kick him in the balls. HARD!

  5. Stick some masking tape (a thin layer) over the end of the ball on your T-bar, as it will a) stop the bolt falling into oblivion as you remove it and b) keep it in place until you manage to hook up the thread on the captive nut when replacing it. Job done.

  6. Have you checked this already?

Youtube has also other videos that show at least part of the fairings removed. Search for example parts install videos.
After removal of the screws there are some attchment points where you need to know which direction to pull the fairing for it to come off. With some patience you can figure those. No excessive force is needed, then you are still missing a screw or these pull off attachment points. When you want to put it back together it helps if you have a strategy to group etc where the screws are coming from in the removal phase. There are quite a few of those screws, different sizes, some having plastic washers, some not etc.

  7. Are you taking it to Liquid Wrap Kas?
Sould like an awesome paint scheme

  8. Just take your time! That’s probably the most important bit. It’s definitely challenging the first time around, finding hidden fixings, and thinking your about to bust something before it becomes released from a grommet. Plenty on the YouTube to revise before attacking. Good luck hope it goes well:upyeah:

  9. No... another company. Much better than those guys.

  14. Looks good bud, looking forward with the rest!

  15. What’s the name of the company doing it please?

  16. They're painting it in situ on the bike? I've never seen that in all my years.

So the underside of the tank will remain red? And what about the overspray, because no matter how much you mask some will get through?

  17. I was warned about the over spray and told him. He assured me he would not get any over spray anywhere .
