Octopus Energy

  1. I became a customer as I used to be with Co-op Energy and they sold the business to Octopus.

I had my accident in March 2019 and was in various hospitals and homes for about six months. During that time, my sandwich toaster was left on all of the time. My elder brother spent ages looking for the source as he could see the meter spinning when nobody was at home. Eventually, he found the source, but by that time, it had used over a £1000 of electricity! This is all going on my claim because we argue that if I had come home from work normally, then I would of noticed (you hear it click on and off) and it would of been on for no more than20 hours.

Anyway, coz I now owe Octopus more than a grand, they are getting jumpy and want me to increase my monthly payments from £85 to £241!

I rang up today and gave them my long, boring story. One factor that is true, is that I told them that I feel a great deal of loyalty to Octopus as they haven't got heavy about the debt. We have agreed to increase it to £100 per month (I use virtually none, at this time of year, with the heating off and very few lights needed until gone 9pm) and I feel that I should give them a shout out. They could have been really difficult, but haven't.

  2. Jebus

I use OVO and they’ve been pretty good

  3. I use them and have been pretty good so far.... although I wish they'd get round to getting a smart meter installed.

  4. That’s good to here, some of the smaller suppliers have lousy customer services, they offer low tariffs to get new customers but can’t support them.

  5. They were taking a long time with mine (more than 2 years). I called and asked when they'd be in my area (it seems they're fitting them all the time) and I had in fitted in less than a week from the time I phoned them. Had I just sat in the queue, I might still be waiting. It was actually an engineer from e.On that called to do the work...

  6. I'll give em a ring then, thanks.

  7. What is the thinking on smart meters? I don't want one now, as I apparently, I can't as they are busy ripping me off for off-peak leccy. But the long-term plan is to replace my night time storage heaters (where you have to predict the next day's weather, more accurately than the met office) and get more of the hated Fischer stuff, where you don't have to bother with this shite. It's ground-breaking stuff where you put on the heater when it is cold and turn it off when you are hot!

  8. My reason for wanting a Smart Meter may well vary from the next man’s. My gas meter is under the stairs in a void occupied by stored Christmas decorations and other bulky items that come out at odd times. Sadly, there is no view of the meter from the little door, because it was installed against the wall on the far side, so reading the meter is a chore to undertake once the ‘telephone table’, lamp etc are moved out of the way in order to commence the excavation. Lord Caernarfon had an easier time getting to the treasures of Tutankhamen! So for me, a meter that can be read accurately remotely so I am billed for what I use, rather than what I might use, suits me very well. As internet verbiage goes, YMMV.

  9. So, how was the sandwich when you eventually got home?

  10. It had been stolen!!! I had an empty, tired out, sandwich maker!

  11. You are perhaps lucky you didn't have fire?

  12. Very.

And the house insurance had run out!

Imagine. I could have been laying in Southmead Hospital after having my left leg amputated and a burnt down house. It doesn't bear thinking about!

  13. No it really doesn't... So silver lining and all that stuff.

Perhaps you deserve a Bimota following all your trials & tribulations? I know you had almost decided for sure on one of six bikes and I don't want to muddy the waters but...
