748 Sps.. Just Need To Get My License!

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by 328isport, Jun 10, 2021.

  1. Hi All,

Very pleased to be here after recently purchasing my first Ducati, something I've always one day hoped I would own. I've been into bikes and bike racing since a youngster but in terms of riding myself I didn't get any further than my CBT, and a couple of needy 2 strokes (Aprilia RS125 and Yamaha RD125). I've stuck to cars ever since and got my two wheeled fix from cycling, but recently I started getting a bit bored of 4 wheeled offerings so decided it was time to get myself a motorbike, initially just to own - certain bikes to me are like works of art, I just love the form of them - and for this purpose it just had to be a Ducati!

I actually now have one real Ducati and one licensed one in the form of a Super Soco CUx Ducati edition, this is a 100% electric scooter and is a brilliant little machine, I use it for my 26 mile round trip commute on a daily basis at the moment. I technically bought this one first from Ducati Chelmsford but got my 748 before the scooter arrived.

I went for this particular 748 because I wanted something a little more special than a standard one and this one appealed even more as was not only an SPS but also has a number of additions such as the Marchesini wheels, a fair bit of carbon/carbon airbox etc and all the original parts including the paddock stand and yellow cover they came with.

Despite not being able to ride it I'm still loving it, I'm working through giving it a good clean and this plus starting it alone is giving me lots of enjoyment :)

I'm deciding whether to do my test at the moment, it would be a dream for me to ride this bike, not alot, but just when the mood takes to complete the experience.

The bike had a pretty comprehensive going over by Moto Technica in late 2019 (belonged to the owners brother) before it was sold to the guy i got it from who didn't use it, and now its with me, so I guess its long overdue somebody actually riding it!

  6. The scoot is pretty groovy, but it needs extended forks and an ss90 peanut tank

  9. Definitely looks that part, and a nice combo you have there - congrats!

Get your licence. The process will make you safer on the scooter, and you don't really want L-plates on that do you?

    Welcome to the forum!

I have a licence I’ll take it out for you, it’ll save you all the hassle of taking a test. I’ll even put the fuel in, no need to thank me.:upyeah:

  14. Thanks for the welcome guys and appreciate the comments!

The scoot really is great, keyless go/led lights/cruise control/quite zippy for what it is and pretty much silent + doesn't generate any real heat and is super clean with no oil/chain/fumes etc. It's 50cc equivalent and as I just passed my test in time, I can ride it on my car licence no cbt or l plates :) cost energy wise is around 1-2p per mile.

I did think about just riding on circuits on the 748, not trackdays per se but I saw there are a few companies offering rider training at certain tracks, and you can do them without a licence, but cost and sheer logistics of it all doesn't stack up, I figure if I do my test then if I want to do one of these events I can ride there and the whole thing is much easier.

I have a friend who does trackdays and did think about maybe getting it down next time he goes so he can take it for some laps and I get to hear it etc, but then think if anything happened to the bike or worse case he comes off it would be a bit awkward!

  15. Get in touch with the test centre and find out how long the wait is to get a test. That will give you a better idea of how to plan?

not many of them made you know

  17. Track time will make you a much better road rider and you will probably get the suspension set up properly for your weight.
