1299 Brake Fluid Recommendations Road/track Use

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by chrisb1299, Jun 10, 2021.

  1. Just had my MOT this morning and was advised that the brakes are feeling a little spongy and it would be worthwhile changing the fluid. Noticing my tyre wear from the weekend he changing to 5.1 fluid if I plan on doing more track work. From a quick read online, seems to be pros and cons of dot 4 vs 5.1 but then some higher grade motorsport-derived dot 4 seems to also be a choice.

    What's everyone running?

  3. Hello Chris.
I used to use Motul RBF660 for track days on my 1299.
Now I use the newer RBF700. I found it better than any of the others I had tried in the past. Im running the stock MC with track focused discs and pads.
I dont know what others use if they have the adjustable Brembo MCs.

  6. Currently using Motul RBF660 also.

  7. I haven't tried the Motul options, but was advised to try Castrol SRF a few years back and been very happy with that option, bike is used for both road riding and track days.

  8. The Motul RBF, 660 or 700, work really well and are more keenly priced than the Castrol. Remember to change it annually though as it's more hydroscopic than regular Dot 4 or 5.1

  9. OK great thanks all, looks like motul is the winner and yes I'd read about needing to change more regularly so no problem there

  10. Srf is epic stuff but horrific overkill for a bike.

    rbf6/660 would be my choice
