1200 Side Stand

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by niner, Jun 2, 2021.

  1. Just to clarify, the stand was made 2.5cm longer, which was perfect; 2.5cm going up inside both ends of the the original stand, hence 7.5cm

  2. My mate has a wooden block on a string. A proper crappy look but it works for him and saves us having to get him upright.

  3. I put mine in the garage today (only picked up today) and had to position it quite far from my racking as it leans quite a bit!

  4. If you'd parked it the other way you could have got it close.

  5. The stand does bend easily, a few years ago a complete fucking goon ratcheting my bike down on the ferry bent it - I had to shout at him to stop!

  6. If you want a longer stand on a DVT onwards and have no main stand, use a Multistrada 950 sidestand as in my earlier post.

They are about an inch or so longer than the 1200 side stand. I bought and fitted on mine, but had to take it back off as it catches the mainstand when its flicked up. If you want one - I will sell this on as its no use to me sadly :)

  7. That’s more like it
That’s exactly what I was thinking of doing
Happy to know I’m not the only one

  8. Hi I have a 1200 PP 2013 would the 950 side stand fit my bike if it does I could be interested

  9. I dont know for certain if it would fit the earlier bikes mate.

I know it fitted on my DVT and they all share the same side stand switch, stand springs, stand bolts etc with the 950 Multistrada. Its always a gamble trying to fit different parts to a model they are not designed to fit. Only trial and error sorts that ultimately. Even part numbers are only a guide, a different manufacturer gives a different part number for an otherwise identical part

As said, the only reason it's not still on my DVT is cos that additional inch or so clips the main stand when it flicks up. :)

Bottom line is I paid 40 quid for it from a breaker. If it is for you or anyone else on the mainland I will post on for 25 quid, its up to any potential purchaser to take the gamble I did and either fit it, or stick it in their spares cache if there is an issue as I did :D

  10.
  11. If it's still up for grabs I'm happy to take the gamble for £25.00
If you can PM your bank details I will bank transfer the money
    Thanks

  12. Please do let us know how you get on - I'm thinking of trying something similar.

  13. I have seen 2 original stands fail at that top weld where it joins the pivot!

  14. Yes I have it.. I only just saw your reply with notifications not working. Will PM you

  15. Received the 950 stand from hootowl (thank-you) unfortunately the stand doesn't fit my 1200 pp 2013
But luckily I'm an engineer and work for an F1 team gonna make a spacer and will make a longer
Bolt and hay presto both the issues I had will have been sorted
no more worry of the bike leaning over too far and no more struggling to find the side stand when I'm at a
    Stand still

Side stand form a 950 now fitted had to make a new bolt and spacer to make it fit
But works a treat the stand is a bit more robust than the pikes peak stand so hopefully won’t suffer from cracking like some of the stands did

  17. Now then, I too have a 2014 PP with a shyte stand. Can I ask, would you be prepared to knock up another bolt and spacer as i think im going to go down this route with the 950 stand. Let me know, ill obviously wedge you up!

  18. 2014 model:- I have just completed the +25mm mod as above. I reckon you could comfortably go to 30mm. But +25 is a great improvement.
edit:- Having used it, I would say 25mm is just the job. post pic added

  19. Evening
Yes no bother I’m not at work now for a few days
So will try and sort out a bolt and washer when I’m back

  20. I find it too short too, my drive is on a slight incline and it's most precarious on the stand. Recently, I added the cheapskate foot thingy, works fine for me. I'm hoping the bolt doesn't shear like my 2013 one did. Piece of crap.
