Norton Deposit Info, It's Demise & It’s New Owners

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by John W, Oct 16, 2018.

  1. The fact that they were building bikes in converted office space should have set the alarm bells ringing for most people. And the V4 race bike at the TT was using an Aprilia engine..

I hate British bikes (not very caring and sharing I know) so it was easy for me to discount them but when I first saw pictures of the set up at Donnington Hall I thought 'that doesn't look and feel right'.

  2. Marketing over substance it would seem.

  3. Yes indeed. One big nostalgia fest blinding people to poor design and false promises.

All manufacturers are guilty of plundering the retro/historical back catalogue to a greater or lesser extent but the British seem particularly guilty of it. Triumph make some half decent bikes (if I'm pushed to concede) but most of their range is retro nonsense designed for the US market.

  4. I just hope that slime-ball Garner does some serious time

  5. spoiler alert.... he won’t... the Ford Focus he turned up to his hearing in would have been for the ‘optics’ he’ll be rolling around somewhere in one of his fleet of new cars and living the high life for years to come. He got away with his practices way too long to get caught out now

  6. I remember Mc Guinness parking it at TT, he wrote it was lethal I think, imagine throttle stuck open, engine seize and brake fail at the same time! I ordered the Atlas, half the engine so I guess half the faults with half the danger as Im a pussy, get a set of balls and Ride the V4 SS, prove your a man.

  7. Cheaper to play Russian roulette.

  8. For style points he should have not turned up and said he had issues with his Norton.......

  12. The same really.

  13. See something on twitter earlier that garner has been declared bankrupt this morning.
Not quite sure where that leaves the creditors, the biggest of which is the pension.

  14. I wish there was such a thing as personal liability which was rigorously enforced on people such as Garner and everything he owns over and above a couple of months rent of a small apartment were confiscated to repay the taxpayers, the suppliers, pensioners and customers of this debacle.

  15. Yeah I sort of agree.
Limited Company means just that, limited liability.
Running a business poorly, using money from new sales to build previous customers bikes isnt a crime, although being insolvent is a crime, especially if the directors do so knowlingly (which I believe he did).
    https://www.companyrescue.co.uk/gui...hilst-insolvent-worried-directors-guide-3743/

If they could prove that he was knowingly conducting a crime, they should be able to seize items under the proceeds of crime act. The problem is, trying to prove he had intent, and therefore becomes liable.

I still don't get why he wasnt prosecuted for the mismanagement of the pensions funds.

  16. I definitely don't understand why the government authorised a second wedge of taxpayer cash as a loan after the first one was wrtten off!

  17. an interesting read, and a lucky escape for some of us.
I feel sorry for those who both had their bikes stripped, and those who received a complete bike. :(

  18. Norton is finished…end of!!

  19. Just received an email from Norton saying that they can no longer confirm that the V4 will ever go into production, and if it does it wont be until 2023 at the earlyist. Another smack in the face for us who where still very much interested in getting the V4, especially with all that positive news relating to the superbike (getting properly sorted) over the last few months. To raise our hopes again and then receive this email has left a very bitter taste, very disappointing!!
