Just sorted some 4 pad calipers for my 996S. Obviously I will need replacement lines to match the new calipers, ideally a 2 line 'race' set up. From a quick google I believe that the 996R 2001 came with the P4 calipers as standard but still had the same standard master cylinder (i.e. not radial) as the 996S. Therefore I should be able to get a brake line kit that fits the 996R to fit my new brake setup? ........Can anyone knowledgeable confirm (or deny) my logic. And if I am wrong any other suggestions on which lines to get.
I can confirm. I have P4's on my 916SPS, 2 single lines. I originally had a standard m/cyl but now have a radial rcs m/cyl. The brake lines I originally bought didn't need alteration when I fitted the radial m/cyl. Hope this makes sense.
I have P4's on a 748 Hybrid with an R engine fitted. I used 748R HEL brake lines (2 line kit) and they fit perfectly. I got the engine and frame and a few other bits with the bike and one of the bits was the R master cylinder. On checking it is exactly the same as a later 748 type which is pretty standard across the 748 - 9** range. So in short you should be fine.
Yup I think so. How did you manage to fit the radial master with the standard master lines. Aren't the banjos at the wrong angle?
I got some from HEL (996R) and they were wrong, as the calper banjos were of the Goldline type, I needed P4 ones. The master cylinder banjos are correct. I had to phone them and describe what I needed and they sent new ones out to me. Hopefully they have revised the lines they supply as 996R ones.
I just had another close look at my 996...the lines are definitely the original HEL ones I bought for the "non-radial" m/cyl. I didn't need to adjust or adapt them when I swapped to the Brembo RCS Radial m/cyl. I agree that the orientation of the axis of the double-banjo bolt is completely different however they still fit without the need to get anything adapted, twisted or other adjustment. Hope that makes sense. R X
Thats how mine are mounted to the M/C. Think they're just know as 90 degree banjos. Hope you can use super vision to see through the lever, i've just cropped the image from an old photo.
This is off topic now as the original question related to using the "standard" m/cyl... Anyway, your hoses are not like mine - my ones don't have the 90deg bend. That's why my ones fit both types of m/cyl.
