Front Brake M/c Recall Replacement Piston Kit Applicability

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Android853sp, Jul 1, 2021.

  1. I sometimes have these thoughts go through my head and can’t walk away from them. I serviced the clutch m/c on my 2012 Multistrada 1200 last year, using a readily available piston and seal kit. My front brake m/c is now requiring a little more frequent attention as the time between a bleed and getting spongy again seems to be getting shorter. I know you can’t buy front brake service kits from Ducati, I have any idea what the equivalent m/c for a KTM or Aprilia might be nor do I want to be without the bike by sending the m/c off to someone like BikeTorque. My thoughts turned to the recent ish Ducati recall that replaced a plastic piston in the front brake m/c of a number of models and wondered if that kit would fit my m/c. Can anyone confirm this or shoot my idea down ? Andy

  2. I think they do not fit, that are the Partnumbers from recall
    Part no. 61041881A for the KIT containing the aluminum floating piston with a diameter of 16 mm;
    Part no. 61041891A for the KIT containing the aluminum floating piston with a diameter of 15 mm.
    1) Floating piston: Ø16 for kit part no.61041881A Ø15 for kit part no.61041891A
    2) New snap ring
    3) New dust cap
    4) Kit box
    5) White grease
    6) Assembly fluid
    7) Elastic band for final test

  3. I've got a leak on my 1199 front brake master cylinder, Ducati want £240 for a complete new unit (it comes with lever and switch whether you like it or not). I'm in the process of hunting down a replacement Brembo piston kit, anyone ordered any in UK?
    I've entered the 61041881A 16mm part number and it comes up with the following:
    https://www.bike-parts-ducati.com/ducati-motorcycle/assignment_spare_parts/61041881A
    I wonder if that's the complete kit, seems too cheap at £12.83

  4. Pretty sure, your m/c has the same piston and seals as the recent recall to change from a plastic piston to a metal piston. There is a recall kit available for that. Andy

  5. I contacted the dealership, they do have these re-call brembo master cylinder kits but my bike isn't affected. I asked whether I can have a kit anyway, they said it's not compatible (Mines a 2012 panigale 1199). So I don't know what differences there are between mine and those getting re-called but looks like it's going to be £240 plus labour for a whole new master cylinder with lever & switch.

  6. Okay, at least it’s good info if not what you wanted. In today’s climate, not sure I suggest Biketorque Racing's return to factory front brake m/c refurb, no idea how long it would take now because it used to take up to a month. Andy
