1098 Stalling

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Captinyzf, Jul 15, 2021.

  1. Hi folks.
Just traded my 848 Evo for a 1098S and, yeah, you guessed it, it stalls/cuts out at idle.
Literally got it yesterday. Rode to work this morning and WTF!

    Google.

    Oh.

Yes, I'll ring the dealer tomorrow but, for all my googling I still haven't found a definitive answer. So, is there one?

Thanks in advance from a smitten yet heartbroken new 1098 owner.

  2. Same thing used to happen to my 1198S , in my case the TPS sensor needed setting up properly...take it back, the dealer should be able to sort it.

Also a good idea to fit a heavy duty exact start lead kit ,do a search on here.

  3. This. Not normal. With the TPS setup correctly mine rarely if ever stalled when slowing down. (I used to stall it regularly when pulling away, though. Bloody slipper clutch. More trouble than it was worth...)

  4. mine used to stall all the time when it was cold, (07 1098, 70mm termi system, DP ecu) until I bought a diagnostic cable and used the Scan M5x app to reset the TPS values, not its totally fine, starts better, idles better, doesn't stall.

  5. Well it's defo not normal. I can only recall my 1098 stalling once in the years I've had it, which was, I suspect, my fault.
I'd be embarrassed if I were the dealer. They do like high revs thought, much higher than my r1200r. As a rule of thumb, the 1098 is happy at twice the revs.

  6. Thanks for the answers folks.

Spoke to the dealer on Thursday and they have said they will arrange to take it back and fix it.
not sure they will be able to though.

Have pulled it apart and it seems to have a std ecu even though it has Akras on it. This, so far as I am aware, will not make it happy!

The thing runs like a dream. Only does it at tick over, traffic lights etc. ticks over fine for a few seconds then just dies. No coughing or spluttering just cuts out. Starts again on the button and away we go.

Had a service slot booked at Ducati Aylesbury for my 848 in a couple of weeks so this will be going instead.

  7. What does the startup message on the dash say?

  8. Full Akra system or just slip ons?...if its a full system it will need the ECU to suit it, as mentioned earlier what does the start up message say?, whatever it might be Aylesbury should be able to sort it.

  9. Just slip one. Start up is1098 TRE which is why I assume it's stock. Could have been flashed I suppose but no way of knowing.

  10. Question.
Found the correct part number ECU for Termi slip on's for sale but it's in France.

    Would that work?

    All the same emission regs..

Might have to ride on the wrong side of the road to make it work but

  11. Should work, more knowledgeable types on here will confirm or shoot me down!:D
