....well, its a joke actually................. ............opinions on why my zorsts aren't that loud, please.......... ..........the carbon cans are only 400mm long x 100mm diameter, with a central perforated pipe straight through the middle of each can.........no baffles, nuffink in the way whatsoever. Packing is pretty dense, so according to some theories, the more dense, the louder the zorst (never makes sense to me, that, 'cos logically as the packing comes out, the zorst gets louder)........ I'm tempted to ride around without any cans, but I already got done for that in 1969 (so I suppose that will go against me in court..........:tongue So why, when they are straight through, aren't they bl**dy noisy? AL
What's the diameter of the internal perf tube? Why are you bothered about how loud they are? Surely the loudness is a byproduct of getting the best performance from the engine. I wouldn't mind if mine were quiet if that was the best configuration for the engine.
Can't recall exactly but at least 50mm diameter..... .....there is nothing in my pipes that can affect performance as they are straight through, and I have done enough zorst design in the past, but I can't figure it out this time...... ........anyway, aren't Ducatis supposed to be loud?
Several things come to mind - cam timing and / or overlap, throttle-body diameters, exhaust pipe length, number of bends in the pipe, radii of the bends... all of these can affect the emitted noise levels. As for the packing - it's not the actual quantity that affects the noise level directly, it's more a question of the density. If the packing is very dense then the noise will travel through it more easily. There's a good deal more to it than that, but that's the basic thing. So from what you've said that shouldn't be the issue. Are the cans CE marked ?
Of course they aren't marked CE........... Engine runs fine, headers are OEM, link pipes and cans are aftermarket high level for a 750 IE..... ....I changed the ally sleeves of the cans to thin carbon fibre ....made the sound deeper, that's all......... ......packing is denser than the stuff I pulled out......... AL
No packing with just a carbon tube with the end pieces is the best sounding and loudest! It was also, back when the little 600 was running, proven to be more powerful by 1bhp over a readily available 'race can'.
Oh well, I'll have to wait for it to burn off / blow out a bit then.......b*lloxed if I'm drilling rivets out again....
There are soo many varibles with exhausts it hardly seems worth the hassle! I bet if you fitted your exhausts to another bike, they'd sound different again! Be happy you've a working Duc and cherish it!
