Oil In Air Filter

Discussion in 'Sport Touring' started by Yammyducati, Jun 26, 2021.

  1. What a day , I now have an issue where after a couple of miles riding I'm getting oil I assume being sucked into air filter via cam breather box that's under the seat,? That's then dumping it all over engine that's obviously making its way to coating the back wheel nicely........And I can see water in oil on left side of engine but not right, is something blocked, I don't know how much more of this duke I can take

  2. does sound a little like a failing head gasket, a look at sparkplugs might reveal more.

  3. I replaced both spark plugs this morning, rear cylinder plug had failed so wet, but front one looked OK, no water in radiator

  4. so possible gasket gone on rear cylinder, do you have a compression tester?

  5. I can understand an oil mist getting into the airbox from the crankcase breather but I can’t understand how that then dumps all over the external parts of the engine. It would only end up being sucked into the engine and burnt off.

Also, can you elaborate a bit more please about where you’re seeing oil/water mixed on the left side of the engine but not the right? Photos would help tremendously.

If you’ve oil on the rear wheel that’s clearly not good so we need to find out where it’s coming from, unless you know already.

Re the rad not having coolant in, when was the last time you checked it?

  6. I dropped the oil out of engine, about 6lts, I think I know how the cause now lol, bike hasn't been used for four years, I did do an oil filter change and oil change, then filled back up with new oil recommended 3.5qrts, but all the old oil could not have drained, I cannot see though how its been over filled by so much

  7. I don’t know which model it is, other than an ST of one kind, but most Ducatis of that era take just 3.5ltrs so a tiny fraction over 3.5 US quarts. The fact you extracted 6 litres implies the old oil hadn’t drained out at all . Clearly if there was 6 litres in there then that is most likely the cause of the issue, too much oil so it flows out everywhere. Still, better than a head gasket that’s gone :upyeah:. Presumably now it just has the correct amount of oil in and all is good ? :upyeah:

  9. ‘Back on’ ? Do you mean all is good now:upyeah:?

  10. Am I being a bit daft here, how can you overfill the engine when there's a window showing the level on the side of the engine?

  11. It's very easy with a V4!

  12. Hahaa this guy did, I dropped oil, and you know that thing that rocks your day called assumption, sorry guys I did it I know I'm a sorry, but hey we learn from our mistakes lol
