Any suggestions for some decent glue? I want to re-attach some Vibram soles to a pair of walking boots and some goretex mountain biking shoes. Tried Evo-stick from B & Q but it didnt last very long.
When I have watched them sole a shoe the cobbler uses heat on parts with impact adhesive before putting them together.
I suspect that professionals may be able to buy glues not available to the general public for work on footwear. I've never had much luck with this sort of repair, and certainly not with Evostick or similar. I tried a product touted on Amazon - " Shoe-goo" I think - and it was no better. I'd be tempted to try a high viscosity cyanoacrylate superglue next time - I bought some recently to mend a fridge shelf; less than £1.50 at Toolstation. Gorilla glue could be interesting ( the foaming version not their super glue or wood glue) - it sticks bricks back onto mortar, and wood to bricks so it's seriously sticky but I am not sure about flexibility, and the expansion as it sets could be difficult to deal with.
My secondhand boots have been reglued three times now at a local cobblers, at £10 a pop i can live with another two repairs and that's it for me.
There are specialist climbing/hiking footwear re-solers. If they're good boots it'd be worth getting them done properly.
I've been thinking about the Gorilla glue approach - it seems I am not the only one to consider it: https://trailandsummit.com/gorilla-glue-for-shoe-soles-hiking-shoe-quick-fix/ Lots on Youtube too: And it's cheap to try, if you have a Tesco Clubcard: https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/265306246
Out on my travels today i spent .90 on a can of coca cola, that must qualify me for the tight arse club.
