1200 DVT Multistrada Locking Centre Stand - Any Interest?

  1. I have just had my BMW GSA centre stand modified by Cymarc in Scunthorpe. Great job and means you can lock your bike onto the centre stand... explanation here.

    Essentially they weld a lug onto your stand with a hole to put a padlock through so that the stand cannot be folded. Genius, in my opinion.

    For £99 they modify and also powdercoat your stand, returning it as good or better than new.

    In Sept/Oct I'm going to drop my 1200S DVT with them so that they can take a look at doing my Multistrada too... and expanding the product line to other bikes than the GS/GSA once they have a design for the 1200DVT/1260.

    Wanted to put it out there as they're a good engineering company, local to me and give great service / value. I'm not some swivel-eyed "BUY BRITISH" loon, but I like these folks and want to support them.

    Anyone interested in hearing how it works out? If it is viable then I'll subsequently ask them if they're interested in becoming a forum trader and promoting it on here. :)

  2. It looks a good idea to me. I did look for one when I bought my Multi, but only ever found BMW types :)

  4. It is a good idea. I like it. Does the weight of the bike back really not bend stuff to the point where it can't be rolled?
     
  5. If “they” want your bike, there is very little you can do to prevent it being lifted. However, mechanisms like this, are a very obvious, visual deterrent to the walk by, casual attempt at theft. Looks an interesting concept and one I’m sure I have seen before but a long time ago. Andy

  6. I used to do the same with a chain through the stand and front wheel.
    That’s a much simpler and neater way.

  7. I have a Roadlok on the front wheel too. So as a minimum you’d need to carry it off… and that’s before the cable lock, alarm, tracker… padlock through the sprocket and chain etc.

  8. The really neat thing about stuff like this is, that you can carry the padlock with you under the seat or whatever and use it quickly and easily.

    There's no point having a diamond quality 3 metre chain and lock if its left in the garage, or wrapped around your body ready to break your back or neck in a spill...

    Its more of a deterrent not a complete preventative.

    We have insurance for when they are nicked, but if we can get the thieving basts to go nick someone else's instead of ours ... we are AOK :)

  9. Pretty much that. Good security should not be an encumberance for the protected party... :)

    My use case and context for this is really when touring as I always aim for a hotel with a secure carpark, but it's not always possible and so away from home I like the peace of mind of being able to lock the Roadlock and stand and engage the steering lock to ensure that the bike can't just be rolled away. I carry a long cable and u-lock in the topbox and anchor the bike to something solid in a lit and visible area, ideally within line of sight of reception and a security camera.

    Hopefully if they find the sacrificial tracker then they don't keep looking for the really-well-hidden one... because what kind of weirdo has two trackers? ;)

    I know that if someone wants to take my bike and is tooled up then they will and that's that. It'd ruin my holiday though, and lead to inconvenience, so if mine looks like a pain in the hole to nick then I hope that potential thieves look at another bike instead. If they do nick mine then I want them to have to work for it, and then get fingered...

  10. He’s a clever bloke, I might just go for this as fitting a Roadlock after buying carbon wheels might be a little stupid.
