Has anyone tried the clutch mod of sticking 1 or 2 friction plates at the bootom of the clutch basket to stop the plates banging against the basket? My 1098 Clutch is very noisey, but i still have lots of life left in the friction plates. With no money left in the pot, i thought i might try quietening it down using some old plates left over from my old 996, instead of buying plates and basket etc. I have read on other forums positive results, but it always nice to hear from people who have done this mod sometime ago and have seen & lived with the advantages and disavantages. Looking forward to your help and advice.
Just one additional old friction plate pushed down firmly at the back of the stack worked for me. You get the clatter when you pull the lever in after the mod.
Have done the mod and it really has quieten the clutch down. Now going to be able to remove DB killers
I have a problem with the mod I went out Saturday night ahead of the ride to Sharnbrook on the Sunday and after riding for 15 mins then going to pull away i had a noise from the clutch and what i can only describe as a slipping clutch on take off, so i removed the friction plate from the bottom of the stack and everything was ok for Sundays ride. Couple of things it may be 1. the plates are worn and with the extra friction plate locking the plates together there is too much load, causing the clutch slip 2. I need two old friction plates in the bottom of the stack. When i have time i will see what its like with two friction plates. But for now its back to bang bang
