Living The Ducati Dream, Replacement Hip,fused Ankle But Still Luvin’ It.

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Texas Tom, Sep 20, 2021.

  1. Hi All, Bought my first Ducati ever, a new V2 , 12 months ago after a lifetime of Hondas.. At 69 I thought my Sportsbike days were over, but following a replacement hip and fused ankle I took the plunge as my thirst for speed hasn’t waned with age (within the legal limits of course) and I love it , the styling is a thing of beauty, and that throaty roar excites me each and every time I start it up. Whether the neighbours feel the same I’m not so sure.
What I can’t understand is why Ducati have not resolved what appears to be eternal issues surrounding having your backside and inner thighs barbecued on a hot day !!! and the rear brake being useless.. It has been back to the Dealer once to be bled which temporarily solved the problem but I am just waiting to have the pipe work replaced to hopefully give it a more permanent fix. Not that I use the rear brake much but it is nice to know it’s going to do a job if required.
My basic research has shown that these two problems have been around on various models in recent years so why have Ducati not sorted them out.
Where the heat issue is concerned there have been various threads on this forum talking about ways to minimise the problem but surely the manufacturer should have taken the lead on this as opposed to the customer having to sort it out..
Having said all that I still luv that red Goddess nestling in my garage..

  2. Welcome to the forum.:)

  3. Hi Tom
Good you found the place, and good you are persevering despite the foibles, I wonder if in 50 years (if there are still "motorbikes") people will still be commenting on the lack of a cure on their Ducatis..

  4. welcome dude

  5. I've a red goddess in my garage too...I've Rula Lenska tied up in there....

  6. Nice one Ivor..

  7. Thanks Chris for bringing me back to the real world

  8. The issues you mention are called character in the world of Ducati....

To keep the svelte styling Ducati I guess had to compromise on cooling and a larger more efficient radiator might help, the general solution is to keep moving.

The rear brake has been that way for probably 25 years, the rear exhaust runs by the rear M/C and cooks the fluid, after a ride feel how hot the right hand rearset gets. There's not much you can do, Ducati did upgrade MC's years ago but clearly it's never resolved things, you can try and space the MC from the rearset to allow the rearset to be the sole heatsink, but the bolts/washers will transfer heat anyway.

  9. Cheers Mate, at least I can look forward to a warm backside come the Autumn and Winter months which is a bit of a bonus

  12. Not as yet, but I am intrigued to find out ..

  13. Usually found in the belly pan

  14. As above^^^.

Unfortunately it is only loosely known as paint due to the certifiable fact that the paint loses its grip on the engine casing with alarming speed. This in turn leaves your once pristine crankcases looking more reminiscent of teenagers face bursting acne in the early stages, which gradually turns into the surface of the moon/ dogs scabby arse look.

Still its not soooo bad for you as the fairings will hide the worst of it. Which is why I suspect Ducati fit belly pans to nearly all their bikes...
