Extended Clutch Arm For 750 Gt.

Discussion in 'Vintage' started by Chasbmw, May 22, 2021.

  1. I’m after a extended clutch arm for a 750 GT, both Tony Brancato and Mdinaitalia, sell them.

is there any difference in the quality that anyone is aware of?

    thanks

  2. Brancato all day long as they make/made everything in house. Mdina Italia just buy in generic stuff. Whilst I'm sure most is fine there's a big difference.

I found the guy at Mdina Italia less than helpful when enquiring about Moto Morini parts recently.

Just my personal experience and I'm sure others will have positive comments to make.

  3. Nope, he's a throbber. Sold me repro parts (Vitaloni 851 mirrors) as genuine NOS. Avoid.

@Chasbmw check whether the elongated clutch arm you buy (if you do) requires crankcase modification. Some do (hence my 860 and MHR not having them fitted as I've yet to find a part that won't need to cases clearancing). Also some people claim that although they are lighter the extended arm moves the clutch less than the standard arm (no increase in cable pulled by the lever I guess) and can cause drag.

If you land on a winner let me know, the heavy clutch is one reason I'm looking at selling my Bevel twins and just keeping the singles.

  4. Thanks for the warning, I’ll check before I buy. I use a pulley device to lower clutch pressure on a 74 BMW and I agree that the zone of engagement is less and you need to be a bit more careful with the adjustment.

  5. What about a hydraulic conversion? There are a few designs knocking about.
I've seen a couple using a slave cylinder mounted on a flat sheet of alloy that bolts on in place of the outer case. Effective but not pretty.
There was an attempt a year or two back to get an internally mounted slave kit made in the UK, similar to that listed by Bevelheaven in the US. I exchanged a few messages with the chap. IIRC he needed a minimum order of 20 and I'd have been up for at least one. Unfortunately there didn't seem to be enough interest to go ahead
The BH design was originally developed by a man in a shed (I may be doing him a disservice here) and sold in small numbers. It was taken on by BH when he retired. Price jacked up to silly levels for the parts used - and they won't sell without the master cylinder/stainless line whcih are readily available elsewhere. A 900ss kit is currently about $700 posted. Plus import fees/duty. Too expensive for me - but might be worth it if means you get to keep your twins?

  6. Thanks for the thought, I probably wouldn't need too much encouragement to keep them but I still have too many bikes and I need to address that situation a bit. The little singles take up less space and are just as fun to ride, bit less "serious" if you know what I mean? There's a lightness to them in more ways than the obvious. :)
