headlight fogging help

  1. Hi,

I've noticed that the left headlight on my 848 has a bit of condensation on the inside of the lens. Is this common and is there an easy/reliable fix?

    Thanks!

  2. It's common on many Ducatis. My 998 and D16 do it. Spoke to a bloke with an 1198 who had same problem. He was going to put one of those little silica bags in the headlight, don't know if that would work or not.

  3. Yep, mine does it occasionally.

  4. Mine does it too every now and again. Usually when it's cold outside

  5. My old 748 it too, always on one side so you can't ignore it!

  6. I am thinking about taking it apart and trying to reseal the unit, will see how difficult it looks!

  7. Nothing to do with the seal. The air heated by the bulb hits the cool lens and condenses. Silica gel packs might help.

  8. Been afew threads on this in relation to 1098/1198's
people have drilled a small hole in the case and cured it. Happens to the Dash as well

  9. +1 Its one of the quirks of the brand. If you want to go ahead and start drilling a hole in your headlight, knock yourself out
Silica gel is okay as long as its hidden and you can secure it

  10. No drilling for me!! I will see if I can get silica in there, otherwise I will just avoid looking at it.....

  11. On the 998, I "just" take off the headlight unit, remove the bulbs, fill with hot water and add a Sterident tablet. This clears the fogging for a while, but it does come back.

  12. Having taken off the fairing to fit a DP ECU and filter I think I will leave any disassembly for a while!

  13. I wiped the inside of my 748 headlight with a small amount of white spirit. Fogging never returned.

  14. Is it condensation (water vapour) or is it a white film on the inside of the lens? The cure will be different depending on which it is. I had the white film that made the headlight lenses look milky white (but still passed MOT) and found that rubbing the inside of the lens with glass cleaner did the trick.
