  1. Unfortunately, for goods over the £135 limit import VAT must be paid on entry to the UK. However, I had a quick look at the Zard website (link below), and it states that their exhausts are "100% made in Italy", so if that is the case under the rules of origin agreement import duty should not be charged for EU goods.

Therefore, on an item costing: ~ £1050 before Italian VAT; UK Import VAT @ 20% would be: £210; Import duty should be: 0; and, Shipping agents fees: ~ £10; resulting in a total charge of: ~ £1270.
To achieve this cost, the Italian (EU) supplier would need to not add Italian VAT to the cost and state on the invoice that the goods were made and originate in the EU to be covered by the rules of origin.
I have recently bought parts for a Ducati from Italy and gone through this process, and with the suppliers' help and a challenge to the shipping agents assessment the matter was resolved in line with the agreement rules.
While imported goods are not VAT free in UK, buyers should only pay VAT once on a purchase, so no EU VAT should be charged, and import duty for EU goods should be zero.
It's also worth ensuring that the Shipping Agents are working in the correct currency, since they may confuse Euros and GBP, unbelievable though that may sound!
Hope this helps, and good luck with your search.
    Tom.
