Panigale Radiator/ Header Tank Fill And Check..

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Poucher, Nov 7, 2021.

  1. Had the bottom radiator off this weekend to give it a long overdue element clean ( see thread in small bike things ) couldn’t believe how much crap I got out of it :scream: !
So I got it all put back together this morning and filled the system back up, the radiator and header caps are tucked right up underneath the fairing air tube duct and are pretty difficult to get to, let alone stick a funnel in while holding the fairing up and juggling a can of antifreeze, so I thought of an easier way around it…

I had this old camelback bladder lying around, it was a cheapie from mountain warehouse, only 9 quid, so I thought I’d put it to better use - I’ve marked it up in case I get it mixed up in future and I’m tempted to start glugging out of it, nasty stuff antifreeze :confounded: !
Bung the end of pipe and fill the bladder with 1 litre at a time…

The pipe easily goes in radiator/ header tank and you just let gravity do it’s thing, or if you’re in a hurry, give the bladder a little squeeze,… No heaving and bending fairings, no juggling funnels and the best thing about this is absolutely zero spills :upyeah:
It’s like giving the bike a blood transfusion :joy: !

After filling bike, running it up and burping system I wanted to check the header tank level, utter pita on the Panigale this as it’s up inside the fairing and the level window is impossible to see through, so I used a technique that someone else on the forum suggested, can’t remember who  ? But it works great :upyeah:
Wheel the bike back in the garage where it’s a bit darker and do this..

With the header tank cap off, I’ve switched on my iPhone light and placed it so it shines directly into the header tank and this is what you see under the fairing..

That’s the clearest view of the water level you’re ever gonna get !
It needed a tiny bit more to get it to the correct level, but this cuts out all the guess work :upyeah:

All sorted, tested and ready to go,…..next year :sob::sob::sob:.. I hate the bloody winter!
    Laters :upyeah:

  2. How was the bike held when checking coolant level please?
    Rear p/stand
    Side stand
    F/r p/stands
Or garage elf holding bike upright without sitting on it.
    TIA

  3. Just on the side stand, shows it that way in owners handbook I believe ?
