Picked up some RST Track tech evo 3 boots and looking to pair them up with some RST all in one leathers Is there anything I should be mindful of when selecting a set having no experience of buying/owning leathers previously ? Also anyone with experience with sizing of RST suits in my size range I am 52 chest 44 waist and a short arse at 5’ 10 guessing it won’t be easy to get a great fit overall would it be worth considering other brands ? Finally recommendations for base layers ?
I've worn EDZ base layers for years . I dare say there are other better fancier options now adays . I bought a one piece Alpinestars suit two years ago and I love it, but it's vented and can't really wear it below 15c as it's too bloody cold! .
Thanks for your reply regards base layers will take a look at them, I think for leathers I am just going have to go and shoe horn myself into whatever they have at j&s/sports bike shop in Leeds and see what works best
I've just bought a new set myself. I was looking at the rst race dept airbag suit ,as I mainly do trackdays, and a lot of people in the paddock wear them. After speaking to a few people, I was told by a couple of them that the rst don't crash that well.i ended up going with 4sr and will the alpinestars airbags
Best advice I can offer is go and try some on, wear what you intend to wear under them also, likewise if you have a back protector wear that also. No point in rocking up with a big fleece on then getting the fit wrong. Also make sure you can move around in them, get yourself into a bike position and see if they give enough, all good leathers are designed to be comfortable in a bike style position. Make sure they fit well, the armour on the knees and elbows, shoulders doesn't turn around and remember they will stretch a little with wear, not much but a little. Depending upon budget you will also have several options, cow hide, kangaroo hide, vented etc and then you have airbag suits also which I assume could be any combination of the above. You may not find a good fit in RST but Alpinestars may fit perfectly, it's a bit like helmets so don't restrict yourself to a single brand. One thing to remember though, one piece leathers in some situations are a PITA, not many pockets and also if you are caught short good luck in a cubicle. As for base layers I have various ones - Alpinestars, Helly Hanson (Skiing), Nike you name it, they don't have to be bike specific, the above are various different thicknesses and the Nike stuff has a collar so keeps my neck warm in cooler weather, all are two piece though again for those trips to the loo.
