For Sale Ebay Bikes

Discussion in 'Ducati Bikes For Sale' started by Rob, Jun 13, 2014.

  1. I thought if a vehicle was over a certain age, some of the taxes didn’t apply. Andy

  2. I thought it's mileage related as well, but you could be right.

  3. By way of an update...

Following the usual raft of derogatory offers to 'take it off your hands' and 'it's not worth more than £3k', the eBay auction ended without a bid. There followed messages saying that it'd cost £thousands to re-commission, and no-one in their right mind would buy it without hearing it run, along with another request to come and have a look. The guy arrived the next day, complete with trailer, 'just in case'. We arrived at a price a little less than the reserve, but well in excess of the derisory 'offers' I'd already had. A couple of hours later, it was loaded up and driven away.

I've just had a message saying that, after changing the belts, which were, understandably, a little slack, and replacing the fuel filter (date-stamped 1997), she fired up, albeit on one cylinder. Swapping the injectors over saw the 'dead' cylinder spring to life. I assume the injector is a little gummed up. Not surprising after over 20 years...

So, for a relatively small outlay, it lives! Do I wish I'd done this myself and maybe realised a better price? Not really; the new owner is, having seen some of his other bikes, a true enthusiast, who isn't out to flip it and make a few quid. More importantly, he's a really nice guy, and I have no doubt we'll keep in touch.

Thanks once again to one of the members of this forum for alerting me to what I have (had!). No names mentioned; you know who you are. I know the new owner has been in touch with him also, so hope they have a mutually beneficial relationship.

As for Ducati's, and bike ownership in general, I'm outta here.

  4. if it’s under 20 years old it’s 20% VAT 5% if older and added to that customs charges to leave the EU and the same on entry…….I went through this process with a bike from Denemark, bought in May, delivered in August, finally got the customs paperwork about a month ago. It’s a major PIA.

  5. The SP4 under the SP5 is the one I'd go for in my 'dream garage'

  7. You probably have more experience with these matters than me with the Ducati brand.

  8. no I don't, we just have experience in different areas. I do know my way around an Ugly now but will always be at the mercy of the ECU and the instrument panel if left standard.

  11. At that cost with genuine mileage, perhaps cut out the christmas presents for the family this year and treat yourself.
