Carby 900ss - Rear Under Tray Bolts - How The Hell??

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by =^..^=, Nov 21, 2021.

  1. Ok - the two allen bolts that go into the back of the subframe - not the front ones that are nice and accessible but the two bolts right at the back up behind the number plate and above the indicators..

How the hell do you get those back in? I'm lying on the floor, looking up, I can see the thread where they want to go but it looks like the angle it is on is not directly down so you need to get the allen key at a nigh on impossible angle.

I tried using a allen key from a socket set with a large extension so that I wasn't trying to turn the allen key in the tail unit but where the extension joined the allen key it fouled on the indicator...

I only took the tail tidy off to get to the two screws that hold the seat lock in place...

I think the easiest way is to turn the bike upside down.

  2. It's a pain in the arse. I have no method, just use a long extension

  3. yeah - It looks to be about 30 degrees off vertical - I've just ordered a 300 mm long 5mm allen key. Hoping that allows the angle it needs...

  4. Take it off and put the back ones in first so that you can see the angle they need to be.
Or use a quarter inch drive socket and long extension on the end of the hex drive bit.

  5. It seems it was simply a question of having the right tool for the job.

I couldn't get a hex key on a 3/8" extn into quite the right place / right angle - but this 300mm long allen key literally did it first time undertray_bolt.jpg
