Dainese Axial Boots Are 'in'

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Freerange_egg, May 4, 2021.

  1. I don't know what the answer is here, obviously the ones with velcro attach to the leathers to offer a seal between you and the road I guess, it's the inner boot that offers the protection (same as Daytona) but I guess the fear is if you are wearing waterproof trousers they could roll up in the event of a fall. My old Dainese waterproof trousers have some armour in them and they only zip up at the back of the leg so regardless of boot style it would be the same.

  2. I’d say There isn’t much in it, if anything. Maybe less fancy materials in the Sportmaster but they are a comfortable boot and give good protection. If anything, I prefer them to the Axials, but that might be because they are new and have red bits to match my bikes

  3. In the early 90’s we used to wear bleached jeans and Pony hi-tops, I don’t recall these issues affecting that combo.

  4. Not quite true @Freak , the 'In' boots have an inner boot similar to the Daytona but its nowhere near as robust, its designed to protect the front lower and the sides, making sure that rotation is also restricted, what is missing though is any front protection above the first few inches of the shin, the reason for this is they are designed for the 'In' leather suts where the front shin protection armour is all built into the suit.

I would not wear my 'In' boots with my textiles as they would offer very limited protection, same reason I dont wear short boots, I have AStar Supertechs or SMX6's for wearing off track.

  5. Thats the only thing putting me off the Dainese stuff these days is those zips, thats 3 of us at least on this thread that mentioned the zip, my pair from day 1 the zips nearly tore my delicate finger tips off it was so difficult to close the zip , and then a short time later they started losing teeth.

  6. its more of pain and my wear is caused by the DP footrests on the Panigale as they are very aggressively textured ..

I crashed in a pair, with just some scraping on the the outside left boot, perfectly usable afterwards.

  7. I have Dianese trousers which need in boots. I found that I could get my Vertigo boots under easily enough till the soles went
I got another pair of Sidi's dont know the model but had to unscrew the armour and take it off. They fit comfortably under the jeans and the One Piece.
I now have a set of RST one piece so the boot armour goes back on cos the boots fit outside
+ I've just bought some new soles for the Vertigo's so when they are sorted ill take the armour off and use them as inny's

  8. Why doesn't Dainese let you buy new soles? It puts me off buying Dainese Axial boots: they are expensive, yet I can't buy replacement soles. In contrast, similar priced boots (Sidi, Alpinestars, Daytona) can all be resoled. Astars and Daytona even offer a resoling service.

  9. I returned mine to retailer for repair. Report from Dainese was user error!!! WTF….it’s a zip

  11. Yep, got Axials as well, in fact bought from Bike Stop ^^

Only done about 1k road miles with them and using them with Dainese trousers, Misano i think?

Agree with comments on zips; mine are fine but to start with the ones on the boot and the trousers were a right bugger to do up. Maybe i just got the knack but now they seem easier. The boots zip up fine if you bend your ankle forward so the knee is over the toes. The trousers are a little easier, maybe just worn in. What does irritate is that one of the zips on each leg has to be left undone to allow it to go over the boot.... but i guess you can have a trousers that works with both in and out style boots unless you have this second zip. But it looks a bit crap imho.

  12. The zips on the 'in' jeans are also too flimsy. The puller tag on mine broke too. The zips on all their garments let Dainese down. I contacted Dainese about 2 pairs of boots and a relatively new pair of axial pro trousers and was given the italian brush off. I'm returning to Furygan and Daytona. Shame as I do like their gear, but the zips aaaargh!

  14. For me it’s how they look, they might be great comfortable & waterproof boots but look like they were designed for Compo….:(

  15. Compo del mondo?

  16. @Poucher Did you look at the Sport Master Gore-Tex boots in the end? Are they any different from the Torque In boots besides the name?

Dainese loves a name change to accompany minor product revisions :)

I’ve been eeking out my old boots but keep looking at the Sport Master Gore-Tex. The Sport Master looks less faff to put on (and cheaper) than the Axial Gore-Tex.

  17. I have both. The Sportmasters are different, in that you just slip them on and zip up at the back. The Axials are different as you have an inner boot and Velcro straps before you zip up.

both are good boots but I think the Sportmasters represent better value.

  18. once you get used to the In boot/ leg velcro combo, i found it hard to go back to my old GP Tech boots as they felt so clumpy...

  19. I never got around to it mate, cos my Torque ins are still going strong, so I’m not desperate to replace them,..sorry I’ve been bugger all use as usual ;) !

  20. @Poucher I wouldn’t say bugger all use because now I know the Dainese have decent durability :)
