It was part of the reasoning for buying my MTS V4 last year. A combination of my age, the 4 year warranty and probably the fact ICE vehicles of all kinds have a limited lifespan, made the decision for me.
Out of pure curiosity I just got a quote on that African ferret comparison site, only one provider would quote, MCE…………..£8608 with £4000 excess For a little comparison, for a 2018 Scrambler 1100 I got 29 quotes back and the best was £134 Im actually surprised the bike was listed as it usually takes 6-12mths before underwriters add new models, I think you might need to ring around?
I just got the same. 52 yr old, over 25 years of NCB, 3 points and locked garage in a low risk area. It’s a bit of a worry.
PP is over £20k MRP which knocks the quotes up another level altogether I believe. Early days tho and quotes will no doubt become more sensible once bikes start appearing in the UK.
Nothing out of the ordinary here, as I’ve tried to insure several new models in the past, before they hit the market, and insurance quotes were similar. Once the bikes land, pricing will settle.
Just had a look on the Meerkat site, £8608 to insure. Only MCE quoting. I played around with smaller excesses, different bike/ accessory values, different NCB’s and the figure was exactly the same every time. That’s obviously a default price until other insurers cover it, and the actual bikes hit the road.
I’m surprised it was even listed. I had the same issue when I bought a new model Z1000SX in 2017, had a long discussion with insurance company and they had to speak to the underwriters with a spec of the bike and comparing it to the previous model to come up with a realistic quote. I really don’t understand why it has to be so difficult but it seems it takes them 6 months after the bikes been on sale to sort it out. Let’s face it though, once spec’ed up it’s going to be a £30k bike and in my experience most claims are total loss through write off or theft?
