Would You Wait For 2022/22 Plate Or Buy It Now

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by tricolore, Jan 16, 2022.

  1. I’ve been offered a crackin deal on a new MTS Full but after the offer the salesman said ..... delivery next week...

I kind of get it, winter sale, hitting targets etc but I just wanted, presumed a new 22 plate.

Then I thought does it really matter, for resale value it’s still a 2022 registered bike..

I know these salesman ‘ it’s the year that matters not the registration number’ until you go to part exchange it.....oh ! if only it was on a 22 plate would have been worth another £500.

  2. I imagine the next owner might feel the same as you and prefer a "newer" plate... Of course if your deal is low enough to cover the lower future sales price it won't matter!

I suppose the other question is whether you think the price of these bikes will increase in the next few months (will the discounts/ deals be harder) and by how much plus will there be a shortage of available bikes at the beginning of March?

I hope your crystal ball is an SPS and able to give you accurate info! LOL

  3. The issue here, if you order now hoping to get one for 1st March, is whether you’d get one then given they are having issues with component supplies currently. My sources tell me that you could be waiting until May/June for something to turn up.

I’m taking delivery of my Bayliss this week, but I’ve put a private reg plate on it and I intend to keep it :)

  4. Don’t think it matters anymore with 2 new registrations per year. If it’s a good deal I’d buy now

  5. Never entered my head when buying a bike or car.... Date of registration is on the V5.

  6. It matters for at least the first few years and will affect the resale price. Thats why theres always a large amount of bikes and cars registered on those dates.

Personally I don't care either - my trusty Monster is 20 this year!

  7. I would say it depends on the deal your getting

Your unlikely to use the bike in the next few week (weather)

    What MS are you getting?

  8. What discount have they offered?

  9. I guess it does. I remember as a kid we’d excitedly point out brand new cars when we spotted the new reg plate. Can’t say I’ve noticed since I was about 12

  10. Been offered a brand new Multistrada V4S FULL for £20k, list is £22.6k. Not looking for a FULL, the V4S would be my preference, also discounted, with a few extras, like the Akrapovic system which would be the same price total price. But my head says the FULL has to be the best value for money.

Probably won’t use the next few months, that’s the reason for a 22 plate, but again, if that’s the deal...

Any views, experience of the radar system ?

  11. For £2.6k off list, I’d go for it and slap a private plate on, if the reg bothers you.

As you say similar price to S with Exhaust..... for the full.... sounds like a deal.

I pushed when I just purchased V2S - and got just £250 discount on the bike - like 1.7%.... then a small discount on the accessories (Stand / Grips and Heated Seat) and free fitting... three dealers - that was the best discount... plus they had the bike in stock - the other 2 were May delivery....

There does seem to be plenty of stock of the V4.... but pre registered (not sure why) for most.

  13. I'm also buying the Multistrada V2s for a March 1st collection. I've bought the travel pack version with extra spots & rear indicators. You mention a heated seat on yours but I can't see that as an item in the configurator on the Ducati web site, how did you manage to get that fitted ?

  14. The discount will far outweigh any advantage a "22" plate would give you. If it's a 22 model, then imo, it makes no difference. Doesn't really count for much nowadays with two registrations a year. I saved a small fortune on my van... bought it 18th February. Wasn't fussed about what the plate said.
As already mentioned, supply is going to be tight. If you wait now, you could miss a few months of riding whilst waiting for the next allocation of bikes to come in.

  15. I think the heated seat is standard - On S - maybe all models ?

  16. V4S Full models will be more sought after on used market in the future and will help command a premium for resale and trade in vs standard model.

I’d snap their hand off in the current climate…and stick a private plate on if it bothers you. That’s what I did back in November on an unregistered MY21 (I had a plate already…) when MY21 models were due to be replaced by MY22. There was due to be a £1500 price hike MY22 vs MY21 with no difference in spec. I was offered a great deal on my trade ins and bought a a V4S Full Sport.

I’m glad I did as there are delays to MY22 factory orders resulting from the semiconductor crisis and supply chain (and associated price hike) issues are getting worse (not better) and will go on until at least the backend of 2023.

Also, the retail/sale price of the bike isn’t always the only factor on assessing a great deal… if you have one, and are offered a great deal on a trade in then that should be considered as well.

  17. I'd be much more interested in the Model Year of the bike, than the registration date.

I'm ready to pull the trigger on a Speed Triple 1200 RS if (and only if) I can get a deal, otherwise I'll wait for a 22 plate. The registration plate won't affect the bike I get (and eventually sell on) because the dealer has had 10 new bikes sat on showroom floor since Autumn, and afaik, Triumph haven't updated the Speed for MY22.

In the UK, we should be on MY22 for bikes that have had updates. In the US, they are on to MY23 already, because, well, marketing...

  18. The hang up on the registration number is still a thing with some customers but is becoming increasingly less relevant to most, like others have said it's the actual model year that matters so if the deal is good and it does sound it I wouldb't give a monkeys what arbitrary number was bolted on the back of my bike, I only ride classic stuff though so what do I know! :D

  19. Are you going to ride it? or not before 1st March?

I took delivery of my V4 in Jan 2018 but didnt ride it so left it unregistered until March.

    WOuld that work?

  20. I’ll ask, I was offered similar years ago, but can you insure an unregistered bike ?

At the moment leaning towards taking delivery next week, as said it’s an offer I don’t want to lose on either the V4S or the FULL.
