Battery Charger

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Wasted Time Lord, Jan 19, 2022.

  1. Any recommendations? Looking on Amazon (just to see what is available these days) you get stuff like look at reviews of a Black and Decker only to find none in English - which suggests the same shoddy fate of Stanley, sold to some oriental tat merchant for misleading potential buyers with the name.

I want to buy one off the shelf, in Cheltenham, but have no idea where from (unless say from a bike dealer, but I'd rather not). The High St. Halfords closed years ago and what's left looks like a tyre and exhaust place only.

  2. I think you may have painted yourself into a corner if you want to buy from a high-street shop! I believe there'll be a retail-park Halfords in the Cheltenham area, and the other "local in most places" options might be Euro Car Parts, Toolstation and Screwfix, but none of them would use premises in a high street. I think most people favour chargers by Optimate or CTEK - I have an old one by Optimate (Accumate model) which does the job for car batteries (slowly) as well as bikes. If considering online options then Sportsbikeshop are always worth considering (I prefer to use them than Amazon) - their delivery service is usually very good.

  3. Plus one for the Noco Genius range. One charger does it all. Lead acid, AGM, Li Ion, 6 V, desulfate etc.

  4. WTL, if your battery is just a regular lead acid or gel one I think I have an old Optimate kicking around somewhere. You'd be welcome to it if I can find it. Might need a lead making up to connect to the battery on your bike though as I think the old one went when I sold my old bike.

  5. Thanks Mr B., but I don't appear have such any more.

I went in Wilko earlier and they have a Ring 6A 'Basic' model. I brought up my 999 manual on the phone which says 'charge at 0.9A', so I didn't get it. Also that's lead acid only, so I need to remove my battery first, I suppose, and find what's on it now. 'Gel' is a new one on me!

  6. I’d be happy to take you up on this. PM me if you want.

  7. I still don't know if 6A is suitable for charging a 0.9. but I suspect I'm about to order a NOCO. Since my sis said she didn't have one it seems a good idea to get something that'll charge her car's too, so - yeah, just ordered the NOCO Genius 2, delivery tomorrow (along with 6 jars of coffee!). I don't have to find out what kind of battery 'cos it does them all. Also, unlike everything else I looked at reviews for, the NOCOs didn't have any bad reviews :upyeah:
Different page, I guess. Now I'm seeing a few 1-star reviews. Not that I'm concerned.

  8. I currently have 6 bikes on charge/maintenance, all of them on a NOCO. Not a bad choice IMO. Andy

  11. The other two, I just whipped the batteries out as the bikes have no electronics. Andy
