Brake Line Replacement - What Sleeve/fitting Colour Combo?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by TheJackal, Jan 18, 2022.

  1. The lines on my 2003 999S are coming up to 20 years old, I know these are braided from factory but the rubber inside them won't last forever and....brake lines tend to work perfectly fine until they don't.

I'm considering going for Ergal (aluminium) fittings by Fren Tubo so I have the choice of choosing the sleeve and fitting colour.

There's the classic blue/red fitting which has been used since these fittings were a "thing" but I think it might look out of place on the 999.

Currently considering black hoses with all red fittings (generic photo):

What combos do you guys like and/or suggest?

  2. Not a fan of coloured fittings look cheap even when not.

  3. Classic braided with clear plastic coating and stainless fittings or black coated with stainless would be my vote.
I would shy away from aluminium alloy fittings due to corrosion potential.

  4. I have to agree with Rickyx, we would never fit any of the coloured Aluminium ends because of the corrosion risk, also the red anodising turns pink in a couple of years exposure to the sun and cleaning chemicals. The classic combo of clear cover over stainless hoses with stainless ends will always look right and stay that way for another twenty years!

  5. ^^This.

FWIW I have red/blue fittings on my SP3 - they look naff (IMO) and I've had a couple of advisories at MoT time. Changing to black-coated with stainless fittings is on the list of jobs to do.
